Hi all, well I posted a few days ago that I loaded up my Dean HardTail with an A2n/DDb combo and it sounded very cool. However, after playing and tweaking and comparing with other axes and amps over the last few days I found that the DD was a little too shrill for my tastes and that it was microphonic. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good, but the A2Pro in the neck is SO sweet and smooth sounding that it is just too much contrast plus the DD is a little microphinic and squeals like a pig at med-loud volumes - definitely not a good thing for me as I only have two volumes, off and loud
So...after reading some stuff about folks swapping the A5 mag in their JB's for an A2 and listening to some clips I decided to pull an A2 out of a PG I have here and give it a go in the DD. Well folks, the result is very cool IMHO. The best way I can describe the DDA2 is that is is a polished DD/JB. It is still aggressive sounding and still has the harmonics and the bite but it is much rounder and the high-end sizzle and grainynesss of the DD has been tamed a bit. The bottom is about the same and the output is just a hair less than the stock DD. The sound is actually much closer to a JB now than a DD but the nasty (and I mean that in a good way) midrange spike of the JB has been softened a bit. Overall this is a pretty cool sounding pickup and is a great alternative to the DD and JB. This could replace the PG as my main bridge pickup if it were offerred as a production model . A high-output A2 with the sweetness of an A2Pro and the cut of a JB. It matches extremely well with the A2Pro in the neck and when switching between pickups, the bridge pickup sounds like a higher output version of the neck pickup with a little bump in the mids - perfect IMHO.
I am going to try it out in the studio and on some gigs and I will post some clips when I have a chance. If any of you are on the fence comtemplating this mod - do it, you never know until you try
P.S. Anybody have a Seymour A2 mag they want to sell me? I now have a PG that needs a magnet to become a working pickup again

Just sent him an email. I also ordered an A3 to try in my APH - Alnico Pro 3 anybody?. Thanks
Very cool! Now I need to try an A2 in my JB.
FWIW, you now have a JB A2 as well. The DD and JB use the same coils with a different magnet.
