Well I just got my Gothic Les Paul this morning and I think I broke it only a few minutes ago. The nut around the input on the guitar was very loose so I tightened it up with a wrench and now when I plug into an amp the guitar is dead, no sound comes out. Was probably stupid of me to do that but I'm not sure exactly what I broke or how to fix it. Any ideas of what might have happened when I did that or what I should do? I'm not really an expert when it comes to the electronics inside the guitar.

You probably just tore of a wire or two. Just open it and solder it back on if this is the case.

probably took the hot wire off the jack or something......shouldnt be more than a wire or 2

yeah I'm sure you twisted off a wire. You can't just go wrenching on that nut without holding the jack in place from the inside, it'll just turn, you probably twisted it and tore the wires off. Quick fix.

Ok I see. Thanks a bunch guys. And I'll try to remember to hold that thing in place while wrenching the nut if I ever need to do that again in the future. Hehe.

yea, if you're ever twisting your nut.........you should make sure to hold everything else in place.......

When you unscrew the plate you'll see two lugs on the jack.One connects to the metal jack,that one is your ground.The other one connects to the contact pin,that's your live.
I never fail to be amazed at GIbson,as much as I love the look of their gear,IMO-they really need to tighten up their quality control.
We once recieved a whole skid,(I'm not exagerrating either-our purchasing manager was p*ssed),of LP's that they didn't solder the through lug on the volumes to the back of the pot-a WHOLE skid.
Gibson'd response?-it's pretty simple-you guys should be capable of fixing that.Personally I thought that was besides the point,but that's just me.

Hey guys, just an update, everything is fixed and the LP rocks! Except now a strap button is loose and coming out, but this time it isn't my fault lol. I know I said it before but thanks again guys. Rock on!

Okay, on the strap button, you have a few options...

1. Go buy a longer screw (my first choice)! Take the old one with you to Home Depot. Get a really long one.

2. Buy some Schaller Straplocks (long screws in those usually)

3. Fill the hole with elmers glue and jam a bunch of toothpicks in there, being sure to cut them off flush with the top of the hole. Let it dry and then screw that screw back in there. Don' t laugh, it works.

With all due respect to Scott_F,please don't do this.Please do option #3.

i agree option 3 works pretty well provided the hole is not severly stripped.

Wow that F'in ridiculous A big :fing25: goes out to Gibson for that 1

about ur jack now that u got it fixed another common problem is that the jack may bend over time and not catch the cable u can just bend it back just so u know in the future i had both so its good to know

about the strap pegs i put in dunlop straplocks and the screw was too thin for the hole so i did the toothpick think but after a month it came out so i put in more toothpicks but i also added epoxy inside for a more permanant solution i rock with my guitars and it hasnt been a problem since

I don't think I have ever owned a guitar there the nut on the input jack hasn't come loose or a strap peg screw wasn't a little loose. If you can't figure out how to tighten a nut on a jack (yes you should hold the jack in place so you don't mess up the wiring) or come up with a little Elmers and a small piece of toothpick from time to time to tighten up a screw hole. then you are going to pay someone like me good money for nothing.

I've done these simple repairs on guitars ranging from $50 to $5000 and they are common occurances. Ragging Gibson guitars for this kind of thing is just silly.
