Hi all, it's been a while since something has happened on my GAS front but I've now seriously moved my barcase twenty cm closer to victory! I'd been looking for a new, different axe and something of really A quality. After a month of wait I got this last monday:
Sorry for the pics, but these will have to do. Here's some more before a deeper review:
It plays real well! The fretwork, finish, etc... are very good. Really nothing to complain about. After playing for a year with an SG playing this feels like coming home after a long time. It is, believe me! The fretboard is really smooth and playing feels really easy, even with thicker strings than what I'm used to. I was afraid that the neck would be thin like on my jackson, but I was pleasantly surprised that it had a bit more meat on it. Very nice.
It's equipped with really nice tuners, an OFR, two EMG 81s and an emg spc set. No vol nor tone pots, who needs them when thrashing out!? The sound is divine. It's the first axe with emgs that I own, and they really stand out. Can't really complain about a simple thing with them either. Stay tuned for a clip sometime soon.
The SPC works like a dream. I use it as a lead boost, gives a bit more gain and mids, makes it thicker with more sustain. The OFR keeps tuning spot on for ages and really abusing the bar doesn't seem to influence it at all. It's great!
All in all it's pretty much what I was looking for, and it quite has just the same things I'd have ordered for a custom guitar. If anyone's interested in a real review after the honeymoon is over, give me a shout and I'll fill you in.
Thanks for looking and reading, hope you weren't on a modem!
That's a beauty! Congrats and enjoy!
COngrats... while I personally despise ESP, tht´s a great guitar you snagged there, you´ll be happy (as soon as you replace the Logo )
Nice! I don't think I've seen an ESP before with a maple board...hmmm..at least not in recent years...
I like the ESP necks as well...def a bit rounder/fatter than a Jackson...
Congrats!

That generalization is unfair IMO, both companies have everything from a Tree trunk (bigger than Les Paul) to a twig.... the ESP KH-2 for example is by far one of the thinnest necks I´ve ever played including Inabez, an quot;ultrathin Uquot; I´d call it... A Jackson Swee-Tone on the other hand has a thick V profile
THough I admittedly havent touched an ESP in years, but that memory stuck... frets were dressed HIGH as well....

Thanks! Don't worry, like I said, when I graduate the first thing I'll do will be a CS Charvel order!Originally Posted by JeffBNice! I don't think I've seen an ESP before with a maple board...hmmm..at least not in recent years...

Thanks! It could be the only one with a maple board, they really aren't common in other similar brands either. I love it!

Thanks, J.P, and HAILS!
Not a big maple fan, but that thing looks like it must kick serious ass. Join a speed/thrash metal band and rock out.

It does kick ass!
But man, JOIN a speed/thrash metal band? You should rather ask me how many speed/thrash metal bands I've started out myself!
Thanks!

Oh well then, why didn't you have this guitar before?!!
Anyway, ESP sells a model like that in the US, the M-II maple fittingly named lol.I like yours better though, NO VOLUME, NO TONE who needs 'em. If I got a custom guitar, I'd have a 3-way blade and a toggle to turn my 89s into single coils, lol I hate knobs.
Actually, lol, I just looked at the pic and it's designed just like yours except yours has the boost control haha. For some reason I thought they came with tone pots too and just never bothered to look....
Let's see... I'm not a fan of Floyds, EMG's, maple boards, reverse headstocks, solid finishes... but that guitar seems to have some serious personality!
Congrats, have fun with it!
You say the SPC is good for solo boost? I'm planning to get one for my Strat (noiseless singles) so that when I need to cut through with a solo, or just need more beef for my sound, I'm done by simply turning a knob.

That is the guitar I got! If you have a look at the couple of pics with the headstock you'll see it reads quot;M-IIquot; there. I just had the vol pot changed to a spc and schaller straplocks installed in the shop. Otherwise it's the same guitar. And here you also have the choice of emgs vs. sd pickups.
Why I didn't have it before? Well, let's just say that I wasn't the wealthiest guy on the block, not that I am that now.

Heathen! Thanks!
I've quite liked the SPC so far, and I use it like you mentioned. It adds mids and distortion -gt; thickness and sustain are increased also in the process. I'll demonstrate it in a clip if you're interested, I've been planning to do one for a while now.
Oh lol, I thought you got it customed haha!PWNED on me haha.
Damn...way too gorgeous. You have me GASsing. As it is, my GAS is really unhealthy.

Actually, this thing quite cured my GAS. I haven't looked at new guitars, for what, a week already? I just can't point out a thing that I'd like improved. I'm quite pleased, ha!
But that just means that it's just amps and cabs for a while...
Thanks for the compliment! No use to fight GAS, resistance is futile!
How are those EMG's, BTW, and what amp are you running it through ATM?
I really need to get me a bolton floyded superstrat.

especially since your gear list is longer than most of you posts

I really like the 81 bridge. Tight, chunky, balanced, sweet, clear... all in one package.
I'm not 100% convinced about the neck 81 yet. It has a nice smooth and fluidy tone, but it sometimes it sounds like it's missing quot;somethingquot;. I'll play around with the height amp; others and I'll see if I stick around with it.
The neck bridge position is really nice. I use it now more than I've used before with other guitars, I used to stick around with only using one pup at a time. But these pickups suit each other really well.
I play it through three devices at the time. A PodXT, a JCM800 and a Laney TF300 with a possible Boss GT-3. I haven't really had a decent shot at it with the marshall but the PodXT really likes it. I'll make a clip sometime soon. I'm now trying to save for a new nice amp, maybe something like ENGL and Framus. They're not that expensive here.Originally Posted by DeadSkinSlayer3I really need to get me a bolton floyded superstrat.
You do. It's good that you've now taken the first, and the most important step: realizing the need. Now you only have to discover the needed actions to comply to your need and do them. Off you go!
