I am a Slash fan, and i want the Slash-sound. And the two guitars I have on my hand is a Gibson Les Paul Standard 1987 and a Gibson Les Paul Classic 2001. The standard is ca 120 dollars cheaper. Both guitars comes with original gibsoncase. What do you guys think?
Standard:
Classic:
I wold go with the Classis in this case. The quality of the '87 model Gibson wasnt good enough IMO. You must check them out yourself though. Buy the one that sounds and plays best.
And of those guitars, I like the look of the Classic better. That tobacco burst is WAY COOL!
Wait a minute! Both of those are from right?
I've played that classic. It's a good 'un!!
The classic is much nicer looking IMO.
What about the price and condition?
You said the classic is a 2001 and from what people talk are the newer ones not as good, qualitywise, as the older ones. But if Stringmachine have tried them both and says that the 87's quality is lacking and that the classic 2001 is a good one...then there's only one good one left, ain't it?
No but seriously, buy the one that plays better and feels right.
PS. The burst one looks more like the Slash signature Paul...just switch to Alnico II Pro's PUPs and you've got yourself a Slashish Paul
slash's favorite live guitar is a 1987 Standard. but for me just get the better sounding one if you have the chance to play both.

I've played that classic. It's a good 'un!!Yes, both of those are from dritfetegitarer.com. So you have tested the classic? is it in good shape?
How much do i have to pay for a set of alcino II pro pickups?
Whilst it's possible to make broad generalizations about the quality of various models of LPs from various years, I think it would be a close call in this case. As others have said, I think you've got to spend some time with each and pick the one you like best. Consider the feel, playability, how the necks compare, tone, looks and general condition. If you can afford the extra $120 be prepared to buy the more expensive one if it is the better guitar, but don't assume that it IS the better guitar just because it's more expensive! If it's likely you'll change the pickups, go for unplugged tone rather than plugged. They both look nice!
Gatling.

I agree with others in that you really need to spend time with the 2 guitars to see which one you like the best.....As far as looks, I like the standard much better....I love wine red and I think vintage/tobacco sunbursts are overdone, everyone has 'em...plus I hate the puke green inlays on classics....
Actually, Standards built from 87' - 92' are reputed to be some of the best LP's built outside of the Historic series. At least I keep reading that over at the LPF, and there is some good info over there. So take that for what it's worth.
The choice has to come down to which one feels better and sounds better ultimately. What I'm trying to say is don't discount the 87' just because it's older. Based on the information and reveiws I've read, I'm keeping an eye out for a late 80's, early 90's Lester.

Don't speak a word of Swedish I'm afraid. I was just clowning around, showing off my ignorance.
Actually, there are people in remote parts of Hampshire (I'm not a local) whose dialect might as well be Swedish for all I understand of it.
LOL...it's all okay. I was just curious if it appeared that you were a swedish speaking that had moved to Hampshire. And yor nick Simon_F could be swedish since Simon is quite a common swedish name (though it would sounds more like Seemon in your ears I think). Sorry for going of topic.
Gatling! Back to your Les Paul...have you decided yet?
Is that '87 all mahogany? I have an '87 Custom and it's one of the best LP's I've ever played. That's about the time when the new owners of Gibson started putting quality back into thier guitars. Jeff H is absolutely right. Go for the '87.
I normally prefer standards, but I really love the looks of that classic. These guys are right, though. You should get the one that plays the best and sounds the best. Plus whatever they said in sweedish.
