I just got home to find a Box from out very own Theodie...not a full on custom job but this piece contains quite a bit of his handy work!
So what do you guys think?
I'm not much of a reverse headstock guy, but the overall guitar has a warm, classy/relic feel. Beautiful, nonetheless.
Which pickups are those?
YUP...............very nice!!!!!
You and Theodie have to pay me a new keyboard, this one couldn't handle the drool.
If only the headstock wasn't reversed it would be so perfect...
Very nice! What work did the Odie do on the ax? The finish as well as the pickups install? Lew
That's gorgeous. I think the reverse heastock looks great on it, and I'm not usually a fan of reverse headstocks. The color is very nice, and you rarely see a neck shine like that right off the bat. Graphtech saddles and chrome knobs are a nice touch too.
Im guessing those pup's are Bill's, XL 500's?
Actually after looking at it for a bit, i kinda like it!
Maybe 2 of the same colour pups would make it a little sweeter for me.
But im sure that would make some interesting tones for sure!
Sweet Axe Bro!
Looks gorgeous, but I agree with J4A, that matching pups would be the frosting on the cake.
Still . . . nice job.
Artie
I like it! Very nice!
THANKS GUYS!
So far I dig it guys...the Pickups are NOT L-500's but they are Bill Lawrence pups, they are both early 70's L90's and as for them matching, at that time Bill's neck pickups were black and the bridges were cream...it's a pretty dumb idea but that's the way he did it...I do wish that they matched but to be honest these are pretty hard to come by and I took whatever I could get, and it is a quot;matchedquot; set even though the colours do look funky.
Odie did some routing for me as well as a fret job on an old Warmoth neck he had laying around and put the LSR nut in it then some KILLER set up work and wiring and it was ready to go...this was not a ground up job for Dave but the routing and fret work are great...the guitar played killer!
As for the reverse head...this is my second Fender axe with a reverse head and I love it...It looks cool as **** and I like the way it changes the feel of playing the guitar.
Im still getting used to it, this is my first Strat with buckers and Im not 100% sure about it yet...Dave's work is amazing but I might go back to a S/S/S set up in this guitar...not sure yet. As soon as I figure that out Im gonna put in a Callaham trem kit and it'll be done!
Thanks Dave...nice work!

Didnt know that Bill did his pups like that way back when, hmmmmm.
Those might sound reall really good split, are they 4 conducter wired?.... maybe setting it up with PRS wiring would make sum nice strat tones with the Bill's split.
Just a thought.
Bill Lawrence Sound Design started in 1969 and no they are not 4 wire...I really wish thet there were but no luck.
Hey Christian, I'm familiar with the way reverse peghead Firebird guitars sound compared to non-reverse Firebirds but how would you describe the diff in tone when it comes to Fender Strats? Do the low E and low A seem a little looser and maybe deeper or twangier or more piano-like? That's the way I'd describe the diff when it comes to Firebirds. What do you think? Lew
Lew, I have 3 quot;Stratsquot; now...my JV, the red one with buckers at the top and a MIJ 68 Reissue that is lefthanded that I flipped upside down, and both the red one and the lefty are just like you describe...I love it!!! I makes the low strings more loose feeling and adds a lot of depth to the tone and the high strings are a bit tighter which really keeps me playing tighter since they are a little harder to bend...the difference in tone is more noticeible on the low strings but it's a welcome change...I decided after my lefty that all my Fenders were gonna have a lefty/reverse headstock of they would be full on lefty guitars.

Cool! I always loved that about my Firebirds. But none of my Strats are that way...I'm going to have to get me a lefty Strat and turn it upside down. (And maybe an Afro wig to complete the look! ) Lew
Thank you for the kind words Christian!!!
Lew, I would love to see yoda with an afro wig on playing a reverse strat!!!!! LOL!!!!!!

As for you...do it, it's cool, to be honest I like playing a lefty Strat better that a righty Strat! It feels like a whole new guitar!
the cream and black humbuckers really sets it off! I love the look!
I wish I could play it and see how those lawrence's sound...
