Okay, I'm sure this has been discussed here before, but no combination of search terms that I tried borught up any obviously significatn threads, so apologies..
But could abyone walk me through rolling the edges of a fretboard? What grit sandpaper? Wet or dry? Block or hand? Any common mistakes to look out for?
I can only give you my experience with rolling the edges of the rosewood fb that I just did on my strat. I used 600 grit Wet/Dry and dry sanded, by hand, the edge only. Careful not to remove the finish on the maple neck. It only took about 30 or 40 minutes of light sanding to achieve my desired results.
get you one of them sanding sponge block things, they form around the neck, and work great. It's what I've used on all my guitars, and so far I have no complaints.
I've never done it, but I think if you did it with a piece of fine sandpaper wrapped around a popsickle stick, and were very careful, you'd get good results.
Afterward, I'd probably take a little piece of leather and burnish the edge a little, just to seal and smooth it.
rolling the edges as in taking that sharp 'new' feel off?
i used the non-cutting edge of a knife, draw it gently up the edges (like, enough so you see the line of the edge change) with the knife angled *towards* the direction of travel (so no wood is actually dug into, you're using the edge of the knife as a blunt instrument)
i saw a photo of a fender custom shop worker doing it with a razorblade, but a knife works fine, as long as you don't rush into it and inspect your work as you go, no worries!

I have mine hand-rolled on the thigh of a Cuban virgin.
Oh, Guitar necks. I though you said quot;Cigarsquot;
I used a piece of steel rod and just dented the edges and did not removed any wood.... It was a 1996 Tex Mex strat with a Rosewood board.. It feels great now... Wish i could do the same to my 2 other Mexican strats with mapleboards..... My Best Mexican strat is a 1999 Stanadrd, white one with a maple board... The edges are super sharp... Once i get around to doing a refret those edges will be gone... I want to install 6105 fret wire into it oneday..

That's good info. I wanted to roll the edges of my SG-X, but I wasn't sure it would be a good idea to do this on a fretted neck.
