Guys,
My complaints on this forum re: the thin sound of my SG Standard w/ 59's are well documented. However, the issue is now moot. I played the guitar through a new practice amp (Valvetronix 30 watt) and voila, I found it's sweet spot playing through the Marshall 70's and 80's channels. The SG ROARED! I also noticed that the picking attack really affects the tone and raising the pups helped as well. I can only imagine what this will sound like through a real Marshall, CRANKED. I may even start dropping down a half-step to fatten it further.
My next obsession - an archtop with P90's or very warm buckers. Let the GAS begin.
cool man! its always a great feeling to nail a great tone!
Congrats! I knew you'ld solve the puzzle sooner or later. SG's are great guitars. I couldn't live without one.
Enjoy.
As you can probably tell, I love SG's. I've never had a problem gettin' sweet tones or heavy grinds out of them...
Very cool....I have a nickel covered Dimarzio Fred in the bridge of mine and a 59N pickup...I Like the combination alot...I'm wanting to try a Dimarzio VVH in place of the Fred just for the heck of it though?

I've had some ideas about pup experimentation with the SG. I love the '59's, so I might buy a used SG Standard and just use it as a pup receptacle see what flies. I'd like to hear Seth Lover's in one, as well as a JB or a BBQ in the bridge.
