anyone know anything about these?
magnet type?
resistance?
low or high output?

bump

I think that they are wound like a PAF, but the magnet in them is Alnico 8! They're a bright pickup from what I understand. I considered buying one off of ebay recently-- it went unsold twice. I could have gotten it for $20. Got a line on one Lester ?

yeah i may sell you mine after i get it in the mail

I hate to let the cat out of the bag but Super 70s are extremely nice mid-60s to early 70s Gibson pups. I have a 1981 AR-50 Artist with them and it sounds amazing. Many people have commented on how great that guitar sounds.

They are Alnico V (5) and the neck pickup is wound for about 7.55K ohms DC resistance and the bridge is about 7.85K ohms.

They are modeled after the T-top humbuckers. They have a decent amount of snap in the high end but I wouldn't call them bright. Very nicely balanced tonally.

They sound nothing like the tapped Ibanez humbuckers that replaced them on the Artists of the mid 60s. I think those are tinny sounding.

In fact, I'm hoping that when I put Alnico V magnets in my Duncan Antiquities that they will sound more like (hopefully even better than) my Super 70s.

But $20? Cripes, you'll spend over 3 times that for another pickup that even starts to come close in sound quality.

Just looked at this auctionon eBay

I do not believe that this is a Super 70s pickup in this auction. It doesn't look right.

(warning, 200K file)

Here's my '81 Artist with real Super 70s in it. The have two height adjustment screws on the bass side, one on the treble side.

I think you're right. Its a japanese pickup though. It looks like a Maxon, I think. I'm certainly no expert though.

hey that artist is SWEET man!

Thanks, Lester. Too bad it's so effin heavy. But it sounds nice for as long as I can tolerate it on my shoulder.Gripweed,
I wasn't aware of the Super 70s being Alnico VIII. Thanks for the correction.

I had read that they were V, but I don't remember where.

For a short time I put a pair of late 60s Gibson T-tops in the Artist and there wasn't much of a change. I did sense that the Super 70 sounded a little bit fuller, so I re-installed them and I think I was right, though the difference was subtle.
