I'm just wondering who the major players are when it comes to compressor pedals?? And if you guys have any opinions on whats hot and whats not I'd love to hear em

Mxr compressor

I got an MXR Super Comp. Very good pedal. Bought it to replace my Marshall Ed the Compressor (Get it?) which was decent enough for the price. Depending on how much you want to spend. Ed the Compressor is the cheapest then the MXR. Sorry I can't really help you with U.S. prices. If you can stretch a little further then you might what to consider the Cartl Martin (Not sure what it's called) compressor. That's very good. I do think the Marshall is you're best bet you value though. It's the same old problem here though I'm afraid. Do you spend 50% more for something that's only 25% better? All depends on how much you're prepared to stretch to!

The Keeley Compressor is probably the industry standard for a high-end boutique compressor. I haven't actually tried one myself but have never heard anything but good things about them. Pretty pricey- about $220 USD.

What sort of function do you want a compressor to fulfil? If transparancy is what you're after then I think the MXR is a good bet for anyones money. I wouldn't really know what to recommend if you're after that country twang sound.

I prefer the Boss CS, it seems to be a little more transparent than the others I have used. Compression should be used in moderation, as it can really take away the dynamics of your sound.

I just want something that'll give a little boost to solos and add warmth and body to my tone, I'm after something that'll give natural sounding sustain... Or is that asking to much :P

I know Trey Anastasio (aka Mr Compressor) uses the Analogman Compressor pedal

Keeley Compressor or one of the Analogman compressors.

I just picked up a Janglebox ( Pricey, but it does exactly what I want a compressor to do so it is worth it for me.

Cool, well I'll check all those suggestions out! Just one more questions, has anyone had any experiance with the Line6 Constrictor?

Anybody find any schematics for the analogman compressor?

dynacomp is the standard, analog man's pedal is a reissue dynacomp with some mods.

Carl Martin as well.

how do the controls on a dynacomp work?

I have used the Boss CS-3 for years but I have used the Carl Martin and the Analog Man Juicer/Bi-comp and they are both great. I would go for the Juicer myself and I have my ear to the ground for a good deal on one but for now, my Boss CS's do the job.
