...what is the difference? On the Antiquities page, all the specs seem to be identical, but the resonant peak and magnet types are left out. What gives?
texas hots are A2...Surfers are A5
in general terms ( i have owned both), the texas hot had more mids, smoother highs, and a kind of quot;chewyquot; sound...the bass was fine, and a little soft in sound. The surfer had more brightness, more snap, and tighter louder bass
in the end, they both sounded very good, and just somewhat different, not DRASTICALLY different...just different flavors of great vintage strat tone
1 for Flank's answer. For my taste, the Twangbanger/2 Surfers is the 'go to' set by Duncan. Or, the Surfer Custom bridge/2 Surfers.
Keep in mind that the two don't mix well. If you put a Texas Hot Custom bridge with 2 Surfers, you'll have to swap the neck and middle with each other, and wire the bridge with the black and white wires reversed. That's how to get around the phasing issue.
I like the Texas Hots in a bright strat....My favorite combination also,is the Surfer/Surfer/TB in the bridge...Hard to beat this setup..
the texas hots aren't as 'twangy' as the surfers..
i can only speak for the TH, but they are killer great blues tones, and clean sounds. i have a 5/2 in the middle and a lil '59 in the bridge- the Alnico II and Hybrid magnets in the neck and bridge are an interesting combo when split..

So there are also two Custom Bridges -- one with Alnico 2 and the other with 5?
