I'm thinking of changing out the pickups in my PRS Custom 22. I believe they are the old Dragon I's. I LOVE the cleans it produces...very bell like...I just melt over the clean sound. But the dirty sound leaves much to be desired. It's like the pickups aren't hot enough. There's a definate different between it and my Gibson LP. I know I might have to sacrifice some of my bell like cleans in order to get more juice on my dirties...but is there a pickup that will leave my bell like clean intact while still giving me some balls to the wall distortion?
Also, I'm THINKING about swapping pickups in the LP as well...mainly just for experiement and giggles. Suggestions?
well I have a standard 22 and I hated my bridge dragon II but I like the bass. I currently have the custom in it and I like the way the custom sounds except for my low E string having no definition. So in my thinking since the PRS has a very deep sound anyways something like the JB or Full shred or distortion might be better suited with their mids and highs.
The JB or Custom would do the job very well, The custom wud thicken up the bridge pickup for distortion with a broad midrange that sounds slightly growly and also cut through very well, the cleans are pretty good and it sounds great split. The JB's cleans are less sterile also great split, the distorted tone has less bass and more upper midrange depending on what sound your after. If your not happy with the custom you could always swap the magnets into a C5 or a CC.

You might try a HFS in the bridge. It gives a nice smooth clean tone but really shines when played with distortion. I have one in the bridge position of my Ibanez Artist and it is a great match with the Super-58 in the neck.
