In my Hamer Monaco Elite. I replaced a CC with it. Tried it for about 2 weeks. And I didn't like it. Yes, very tight lows, good thunk, good mids etc. But I just felt that the overall tone was cold. Just wasn't pleasing to my ears in anyway. So I put the CC back in yesterday. And I'm home. I seriously LOVE that pick up. I play all kinds of music, from blues to modern metal. The CC can do it all, its got balls, good tight lows (although not the THUNK of the DD, but I get that from my amp, Mesa, in spades), sweet singing highs, great clean tone, its overall tone is just SO good. So far I've tried, JB, CC, Dime, Distortion, Custom, Hot Rails (in my strat), and the one I like best with the most pleasing tone and versitility is the CC. Jb is probably a close second. That's my take anyway!

Now for a neck pick up. The Hamer comes with a Custom in the neck. While not bad at all, I'd like an AII magnet pup to match the CC. I don't want too big of a drop in power when switching to the neck pup though, so I'm open to recommendations! I mainly use the neck pup for the sweeter, slower, bluesier sounding solos, and the bridge for faster/shreddier etc.

good review.

I've been looking for a SD humbucker for the birdge position of a guitar a might get, but I know I need great cleans... The CC sounds like it might be the way to go, I know the DMZ Super D doesn't have cleans to speak of, so I will try the CC if I get this other guitar.

Rock On

Kac...the CC is a great pickup but remember the CC and the Super D are worlds apart.

Jeff, a great match for the CC in an Alnico IIPro, IMO they balence well and the tone is great. I have to admit, Hamer was not thinking clearly when they put a Custom in the neck of those...

Yeah its kind of weird. Well, I could kind of see it, if you want power from the neck bucker and/or use that for rythym a lot. But I don't. Cool I may try the AII Pro, I've wanted to for a bit.

Kac I'll admit that I only play about 5% of the time clean hehe. So when I say the cleans are good, they're good to me but I mostly spend my time with various types of distorted work.

For higher output maybe I should think about one of the A2 bridge pups in the neck. I want something that's sweet, articulate, smooth, but also good under a decent amount of gain.

I've got an AIIP neck to trade for your Custom!!!!!

I'm going to order a nickel covered one though. =( (of which ever I choose) I will probably sell the Custom once I replace it, although not sure when that'll be!

Go with the A2Pro. That's what I'm putting in my Hamer Special FM when I get around to it. In that guitar, I've had a Distortion, Pearly Gates, Rio BBQ and a Custom/Custom in the bridge. The CC is the best suited by far. I think the the A2Pro will be the best match in the neck. But again, that's just my opinion.
