I was playing through this warm up exercise this morning, and thought I would print the 1st section of it for you guys to try. It's a 6 string arpeggio sweep/tapping exercise. Play it slowly, only pick in one direction, and mind the stretching. Set your amp for a clear, compressed, and sustaining sound so you can hear every note.
Does anyone know any other cool warm up exercises?
I´ll try to understand that
i love 6 strings arpeggios
THANK´S Unholy Ben
My response in Queen's English later on.

perhaps this should be obvious, but what fingering do you use for that excercise?
Thanks
I'll revise it with fingerings for ya
Hope this helps :
Thanks a bunch, Ben!!
Hey Ben, maybe you could help me with this little predicament of mine.
I have the shapes down, and many other arp shapes down, as well as the right hand game, but I have a bit of trouble making the notes ring out clearly when barring with the first finger. It's strange, though, because I don't have a problem barring strings with my middle or ring finger when sweeping.
Also, and this may just be something that will work itself off, I can always hear the pick attack on my sweeps, despite not picking each note. It's like I can hear a little scratchy quot;schhhtquot; when I down-sweep. It's gotten better, but I was wondering if you've ever experienced this? It happens with every amp, guitar, pickup, strings, and pick I've tried, so I know it's me, not the gear.
Thanks!
Jeff

Sounds like simple finger strength, Jeff. The arps I posted, as well as the entire etude, is very physically demanding. I will tell you what I tell all my students:
Play this section as slow as you need in order to play it perfectly; that's in perfect time with every note being clear and no mistakes. START SLOWLY is the rule of thumb!! If you try to play them too quickly you can do serious injury to your hands!!

I would advise this: if it doesn't get in the way of your playing, embrace any technique you have that seems a bit 'abnormal'; it's litte trademark ways that we play amp; vibrate notes, as well as apply harmonics, that make your playing style distinct.
That being said, it sounds like what you're describing is caused by not holding the pick totally perpendicular to the strings when you sweep. As a result, you are 'sawing' the string with the edge of the pick, instead of picking it cleanly with the point.
Make sure you are making a fist and choke up on the pick ... also make sure that your thumb is perpendicular to the strings. Hope this helps.

Are you saying here not to angle the pick?
I always angle my pick and it doesn't give me any problems - Micheal Angelo does it.
If it's not giving me any trouble now, would you say it's a problem worth fixing? Do you think it could limit me later on?

Yes, try to hold the pick as straight at you can. If it's not giving you a problem, though, then don't worry about it. That's why I said this:
