I've heard in a few post something about 50s wiring. What is it and what does it do? Thanks

Basically, when you roll the guitar's volume down, some high end frequencies tend to get lost. The 50's mod fixes this, so when you roll down the guitar's volume you don't lose any high end frequencies. I did it to my strat, it works wonders.
...and the mod is, you wire your tone pot to the volume pot's wiper instead of the volume pot's input lug. In the 50's, the tone pot was apparently wired to the output jack (same node as the wiper, although in a different place).
I am not sure if this is related, but I read in the book quot; Totally Guitar, The Definitive Guitar Guide quot; of something called a quot; trebble bleed network quot; which is commented on by DiMizarrio's Steve Blucher. I will not recite the entire passage here, but briefly it involves putting a small capacitor between the input and the output of the volume pot, allowing for the retention of the high end of the tone as the volume is rolled off. quot;The details are left as an excercize for the readerquot;

Is that the book with a green PRS on the front?
If so that is a great book. It explains a lot of cool stuff. It's also loaded with guitar pr0n.

Yes, That's the one. If you play guitar, know someone who plays guitar, or are thinking of picking up the guitar, you should think about getting this book. It has everything from tube info, amps, pups, repair, chops : jazz, metal, blues, etc., history, whatever. Very Cool ! quot;Totally Guitar, The Definitive Guidequot; 2004, Outline Press Ltd. Hahaha, nicely put. Seriously though, he's not kidding, it is that good.
I've been to lazy to mess with the wiring on most of my guitars, but I really should do the 50's mod on them.
As for that book, I got it as a gift, and there's really no guitar book that's better. Everyone should own it.

I just mentioned this in another thread. I really like that treble bleed cap on my neck pickups. It's not just that it retains highs as the volume rolls off, you're actually removing lows. At full volume there is no effect, as you roll off the volume you get this glassy shimmer to your sound. There's a lot of different cap values to try, and it's a completely easy mod- and completely reversible.
