I was just listening to quot;I Believe In A Thing Called Lovequot; and quot;Love Is Only A Feelingquot;, yeah, I admit it, I got a weak spot for that kind of 80's hard rock or what you wanna call it..anyway, I was wondering if you know what pickups they use, because they got a pretty cool, and pretty heavy tone (at least the rythm tone on quot;I Believe In A Thing Called Lovequot;), and the melody lines in quot;Love Is Only A Feelingquot; sounds beautiful.. I know they use Les Paul's, but do you think the pickups are stock?? Or do you think it's the Marshall amplifiers that gives them that beautiful tone, like the melody lines in quot;Love Is Only A Feelingquot;, and the rythm sound in quot;I Believe In A Thing Called Lovequot;? The solos have an awesome tone too.. Hope you can answer my question.

AFAIK, all the guitars are stock. mesa dual recifier for justin, i *think* jcm800 for dan.

its all power tube distortion

Hello Sune, I agree with you that they have a really good and heavy sound. I think at least one of the guitarists is using a Duncan Custom in the bridge. They also mix and match Marshalls and Mesas for that heavy sound.

they've said they put real PAF's in their guitars (well, get their guitar techs to). Dan uses a 1959slp reissue and last interview i read he was planning on getting the 1987x as he said quot;the 100 watters are a bit loud for the studioquot;. Dan also uses an ibanez tubescreamer.

What excellent taste in music you have!

The Darkness kick ass. And they do have some nice tones.

When I saw them live, Dan was using old plexis and a vox ac30, and had a mid-gain, 70s sort of tone. Justin was using rectos and had more gain.

As one might expect, Dan's tone punched right through the mix, and Justin's tone was background schuzzz. He had a nice boosted solo tone, though.

I want to see them live. Cant wait for their new album.

if the musics good, and they put on a good show, they can wear whatever they like for all i care.

plus, id rather wear a pink catsuit than have an emo haircut

I believe that I Believe In a Thing Called Love was actually recorded using protools and amp sims, due to the time restraints in getting it recorded. Not a valve in sight!!

that song was also sped up a little as they recorded the temp slower than what they wanted. so it sounds a little digital.

When I saw them I was standing about twenty five feet in front of Dan's rig. I couldn't believe how gut-churningly loud it was - coming straight off the stage at me.

They definitely did something to it - the album version is in F# (which is how it looks when you see them play it) and the single version is in G! The mix on the single version sounds much bigger too.
