i need advice for my 6505 head

the amp sounds great and i never decided to test the effects loop until recently, and i noticed that when i engage the loop on the footswitch, a loud pop noise goes through the speakers, and then the loop works fine. It doesnt sound like it should happen and i was wondering if anyone knows what to do.

peavey's customer service still hasn't emailed me back!

have you been on the Peavey Amps Forum? they are really helpfull with these kinda things, i had a few little valve related problems when i first got my 5150, but their all sorted now, they helped me out.

ill check it out, thanks

ahhh it was the preamp tubes

I figured it would've been that; the FX loop is tube driven.

same problem i had with mine, the preamp tubes had never been changed, and i got it used, swaped em for some JJ's, replaced the Poweramp tubes too and had the bias mod, it made a big difference.

IT WASNT THE TUBES...

i fooled around with my effects and cables and i found very interesting problems...

my godlyke adapter for my effects was plugged in upside down in the extension cord i was using, and when i flipped it to right side up, no more pop went through the loop!

i was also using a groove plugs cable and cheaper patch cables, and they added to the noise!

im writing this so that no one else will have to deal with the same issues for as long as i did

no repair or replacements were needed for my amp, so im happy
