I recently bought a Gibson Les Paul Studio that came with aftermarket pickups. (I was told they were Carvin C22s?) And I've decided that I want a new set of pups in there. I'm looking for a set that can give me the sound of (or close to.) Jimmy Page and Slash. I'm thinking of getting a SH-1 59' for the neck and a SH-4 JB for the bridge. Will this combo even come close to what I want? I'm open to any suggestions.
For the Slash tones go with SD Alnico II Pro's (they're what he uses)for Pages tone I would really suggest Stewmac Golden Age Humbuckers. I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and have owned 2 Gibsons (a LP and a SG) with REAL PAF's and the pickups I mentioned come the closest to the sound of them. The 59's is close but I think a little too bassy and the JB is not vintage sounding at all, but does sound good. Hope this helps.
Thanks man I'll go with the Alnico II Pro for the bridge. And either the 59' or the pickup suggested for the neck. How much do you think it would run to get a pro to install the pickups? And will I have to buy new pots too?
edit: also would this combo sound better the other way around? 59' in the bridge and A2P for the neck?
Dude, go for the gold and install them yourself. The folks here will be happy to assist.
All you need is a soldering iron.
I'd personally stick with an A2pro set as the neck is very very good sounding. I didn't like the '59 neck at all
Ok how's the 59' sound in the bridge?
