Finally got it! From forum bro Mephis, who is currently taking a break from the forum for apparently controversial reasons that I missed entirely so... first pics!!!
I'll take my own pics too. It's shiny and black!
I initially didn't like the style of the 51 at all and am still split on it, but after I played one I forgot about it.
Impressions:
I was afraid this wasn't going to be like the ones I tried at the store (which were very resonant, light, and slinky axes). This one is indeed very resonant, light, and slinky. It plays great actually. The action is set a bit higher than I like, but not high enough that I'm going to **** with it. Amazingly resonant actually. I love the way it bends.
Actually that's kind of the problem- like my Schecter, I bought this one as a **** around axe, one I didn't have to worry about. I like it so much I've commenced worrying about it.
The neck is a nice C shape, mapleneck that's on the small side. Very comfortable.
As for the pickups, they're decent... the strat neck pickup does the job well, but isn't as chimey and round as I'd prefer...
the axe is VERY sensitive to picking dynamics though. I like that. The neck isn't superhot either which I like. The humbucker is superhot enough, nice smooth distortion, split it takes on a more singlecoily character, but not as single coily as a Duncan Distortion it lacks a bit of character. I'll have to think a while before I pull it (I have a 59 I might drop in, and a Dimarzio Super 3 on delivery... or I might pull my DD from my schecter and try something else with that)
It's very balanced and nice overall, a good overall axe, nice and versatile.
I bought it with the intention of semi butchering it... painting it seafoam, changing the pickup configuration completely... I won't now. I like it too much. I feel ripped off for buying my Schecter which I payed twice as much for and honestly is a log that I had to work hard to make sound good at all.
I've always disliked strat bridges for palm muting though. Also, while the pickup switch as a selector knob is novel, ya can't tell which pickups on or off just by looking at it. The pots could be higher quality overall, but the jack is very high quality if you care about that.
No complaints other than that. Think this one's a keeper
Highly recommend it.
Time for me to make a reappearance at the 51 modder page

Very Kool, so you gonna be leavin' it stock?
~Kac~
don't know yet. still mulling over pickup changes. it'll be months til I decide.
It's a great solid axe though
perfect for modding

I wonder if a pointer washer would fit on the rotary switch. I can pretty much tell instantly by the sound which setting I'm on, but having a visual cue would be nice as well. If anyone made chrome chicken-head amp knobs, I'd be tempted to put those on, but so far as I can tell, no one does.
OK then, make your way over to our new Squier 51 modders page...
from : localhost/that's stock on mine is the body, control plate and bridge. Am Std Tele neck, different pups and wiring now. I've got quite a few clips of different pups in the Shop Talk section.
****** I think I have to get one now....
I've never been so excited about somebody else's Squier! Those are awesome!
Neat Guitar! Congrats!
I've seen two. One was really nice for the $ and the other was a complete dog, looked like my 5 year old made it. But no doubt that is the best lookin guitar Fender has come out with since the Strat. I would'nt mid havin one to knock around with.
whats the body made from DB? A CC might be a really nice pup for that axe.
Squier says basswood, but it's heavier than I'd expect basswood to be. Originally Posted by JeffBwhats the body made from?

congrats on the new axe Slade!
At first I didn't care for it, but it grew on me. It was the pickguard that I didn't like. Originally it was a blonde with white guard I saw. Now that they are black guards, it's much better.
The body is basswood, but the thickness of it is slightly thinner than a regular Strat. Someone said the Jimmy Vaughn Strats are thinner like this. I don't know that though for sure.
There are some really nice one's modded out on my forum. Very inventive!

Alright, to tell you the truth I pretty much hate the way it looks. I think Fender's made a lot of great looking axes since the strat (Jazz, Jag, Stang, etc) whether or not they play as well is subjective of course
My problems mostly lie in the pickguard... The rest of the looks are growing on me but the more I look at that thing the less I can stand it. It plays GREAT for the money as I keep reiterating. Which is why I can stand it but...
Guess I might be a Squier 51 modder after all I'm thinking more a tele design pickguard, but the problem would lie in filling the holes

If another big sale comes around before Fender kills off the line (something this cool and cheap, you just KNOW they're gonna do it) I may have to buy a second one just so I can refinish it in Shell Pink with a White Pearl guard.

You know something, I've been gassing for a floyd rose axe... I wonder how a 51 would look with a floyd rose? Maybe I should think about trying that out!
