I know the DD is a JB w/ Ceramic mag (or JB is DD w/ A5...whatever )What would that wind give ya with an A2 mag? Anyone tried?

wow...nobody has tried this?

I *think* that a JB with an A2 and two rows of slot-head screws is the Allan Holdsworth model.

Search the tips amp; clips section. I think nuntius (?) put some clips up.

The a2 seems to create a more grainy tone in a JB pickup. Great midrange response. It cleans up nicely too.

It gets you tons of mids with a smoooth top end. I tried it about a year ago. I think that Scott_F might have a review of it still up at his Tone Ninja web page.

this sums it up

I just read that review. I think I need to get me some A2 magnets. Where do you buy them? I don't have any dead A2 pickups laying around to pull from.

Does anybody know what the JB will sound like with an A3 magnet?

right in between the JB II and regular JB
will be a great compromise if the II is too mellow and you findthe stock jb too cutting bright

Thanks, man. Seems like a worthy experiment. Do the magnets come already magnetized or do they need to be? How the heck to you magnetize a magnet bar anyway? I've never done magnet swaps, just read how they're done so this is all new to me.

I would recommend Alnico 4 if Alnico 2 or 3 is not quite strong enough for you.

Note also that Alnico 3 has slightly less overall output than 2, BUT...it's EQ curve is such that it has a little more bass/low-mid warmth than 2.

Alnico 4 is like a quot;harderquot; 3 and with more output.

NOTE ALSO that not all magnets of each variety of Alnico are alike, in other words, some Alnico 2's are stronger than others. It is therefore best to have a bunch of each variety laying around so you can choose stronger or weaker versions of each, according to taste.
