Well I've grown tired of the paf pro lately, and Im ready to make a change. Right now I'm planning on putting a fred in the bridge of my RGT3120. My question is if the paf joe is really a big improvement over the paf pro, or if its basically the same and Dimarzios using Joes name to sell there product.
I have never used the paf pro but i have a paf joe and i can tell you what its like in my mahogany/maple topped bluesbird. Warm but clean Very clean A guy at dimarzio said the low end is cleaner than the pro and the low end is clean. one of the cleanest buckers i have heard for playing distoted chords in the neck position, mids are just sweet. hope this helps you man.
That gives me a better idea of the tone, the paf pro is terrible at chords in the neck. Really I just want a different neck tone to mix things around.

i was seriously considering the pro not long ago and the guy said it would be better with the amp i have. Also i would say the paf joe has some versitillity to it. Take a look at the specs on a 59. My blues bird came stock with them and the joe is warmer in a way but unbelievably cleaner. Go figure.
Sounds good, I want something vintage sounding opposed to the modern sounding pros.
has anyone tried breed neck in the bridge?
it's supposed to be another derivation of paf pro, more bass added than fred.
I just got my Breed Neck amp; will be trying it in the bridge over the weekend, keep an eye on the quot;Battle of the 10K bridge pickupsquot; thread.
PAF joe is ment to sound like a 50's pickup. the PAF pro is a modern or 80's modern voicing of a PAF type pickup.
I've got a breed-neck model in my les paul jap-copy.it was my first guitar i bought back in 1982 at guitar center.the guitar is some cheap wood with no tone.after trying the breed-neck model.i was blown away.i had the paf pro in it first and it was a very nice pickup, but this guitar is very bright and lifeless so i was looking for the same modern open paf tone like the paf pro but with a little bit more on the bottom end and a tad hotter.that's excatly what i got with the breed-neck model.it's just like the dimarzio website chart shows its e.q. to be like.it's chunky amp; crunchy, open and very, very clear under massive gain-no mud!!! total winner and never left this guitar since i put it in about a year ago.really a very versatile pickup.it can do blues,jazz,rock,80's metal,shred,death/doom metal.a diamond in the ruff!!! try it out.....................also ,the fred model is really neat, also, but if your issue with the paf pro is lack of bottom end-dont waste you time with the fred.if you're looking for a somewhat similiar tone and e.q.,but with a quot;twistquot;,then definately try the fred!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
