hovland caps VS sprague orange drops?

no discernable audio difference when used in a guitar's tone control circuit

That's my experience too.

I put a push/pull switch in a Strat that allowed me to switch back and forth between a Hovland and an Orange Drop...both .02. I turned the tone control to half and then switched back and forth. Sometimes I thought that the Hovland allowed for a slightly brighter tone...other times I heard no diff at all.

I think it's safe to say that if there is a diff it is so subtle that there's no point in using the expensive Hovlands.

Those who say they notice a big diff (mostly guys on the Les Paul Forum ) are fooling themselves.

HMMMM. Why the price difference?

My findings also....In an amp as coupling caps and tone caps etc..you start to hear differences, but not in a guitar circuit where you're just shunting highend to ground...The OD caps are great and don't waste your money on the Hovlands in your guitar.Trust us all on this one!

is there a difference between either of those and a ceramic disc? (in a guitar tone circuit)

Oh come on guys, it's all about the mojo. Can't you just hear the mojo in those Hovlands?

I use whatever I have laying around, usually Panasonics or some greenies.

Damn I already ordered 2 of them. I have a mod on my rectifier that jumps a resistor with a 101kv or smaller cap. I like it with a value smaller than that and just a little high end rolled of. Would a .022 Hovland be ok to use instead or is that not ok?

Hype yes....MOJO? No....

I notice on my new hovland caps that 1 wire is green and 1 red. Is that to tell what direction it goes in the signal path?

Does Hovland differ from mallory very much? They look alot alike although the mallory is smaller. Does Hovland come in more values other than .0nn? That is all that blackrosecustoms has.

I don't want you to get mad at me,but you're really splitting hairs with the cap comparisons...Any good quality cap is going to work great for you. It's the value that's going to make all the differences you think you hear over and above the cap brands...Seriously,alot of us have done the homework and there's alot of physcological placebo effects of these tests...

I'm strickly speaking a guitar circuit where the cap shunts your highs to ground,as I do hear differences in amp circuits as I stated earlier...YMMV of course...

My ear does not lie. LOL The hair splitting is a definate fact but I do hear the differences even if they are only 2%. I figure each % adds up. I like the Hovlands and I like .033 the best.
