(Hijack From Scott_F... Thread open, but please attempt to keep all 10K discussions in this thread. I think it has been beat to death, but I have an extensive background in Sales and Marketing. I'm experiencing lots of downtime. Happy to moderate!)

I want to know why we can't talk about it.

Allow me to recommend the search function
Yes, search, there are multiple threads alone on WHY on the first 2 pages of this forum...
I´d think that quot;do not talk about itquot; would be clear enough... it most obviously isn´t
I wish the administration would add a short explanation to the sticky. This is the third such thread that I am aware of, asking the same question.
To be honest, if I were the administration the first heads would likely have rolled...
The administration made a decision, and it´s to be accepted, period... an explanation may be nice for some, but is in no way necessary.
Non-acceptance of decisions that others have to make (after well fundamented and thought out explanation, btw... so much to the topic of explanations helping) is what lead to the banning of the topic in the first place
For some reason, it worked for politics... what´s so special about the 10k PAF that people feel the need to keep testing the ice anyway? The end of the years is in 2 WEEKS people, it´s not a permanent ban ....

I don't disagree with the general tone of this post at all. It would just avoid the inevitable question though. Someone could get in trouble for asking a legitimately valid question, or trying to be helpful in answering a question. Then you could have threads where people are putting the admin to the test (there are a couple of examples of this right now.) I say its maybe time to police ourselves and stop talking about it (myself included.) I love Duncan pickups and I want to remain on this forum.

Seems like I missed all the drama that went on here, however, let me get one thing straight...
If devoted customers repeatedly ask for a product that will not be made, the solution is not to ignore them...but to ban them instead??I'm just trying to get this straight....wouldn't want to be banned for requesting a product that SD may or may not make in the future. And are glow in the dark pickups off limits to discussion now too since that thread was locked??

No.... but if a group of people derail every second thread harping for said product to the point where it´s getting annoying for other users, it´s in the interest of the forum to quell the discussion at least temporarily, because not everyone wants said product, nor do they want to read about it in threads where it´s totally irrewlevant... Especially when the product does exist, just not at the price point everyone wants ... this has been made clear multiple times by the administration and a few members... yet it continued, and thus the topic was banned
Look at it this way: You make something, and multiple times daily (the same) people are harping on you that they want it cheaper.... would you make it cheaper or simply become annoyed, especially after stating the exact erasons more than clearly? If I ask Floyd Rose every day for a green Floyd but never actually place an order for one, do you think they´ll start producing them?
The C-5 was brought to life as a production pickup becasue the demand was high enough (custom orders /forum bros making their own) to warrant it. The demand for the ´78 was high enough to warrant considering making it a production pickup as well, but it didn´t happen... I think that explains the process more than in depth enough.
And are glow in the dark pickups off limits to discussion now too since that thread was locked??
Does it say anything anywhere about a Ban on talking GID pickups??
Bottom line: it was talked about so often and so aggressively that it pissed off half the forum... just like politics.... and those were banned as well.
I see no difference.... other than the politics ban is still in effect..... But if we keep starting threads like this I can well imagine that the ban could be extended....
I´m gonna stay out of these threads now, because
1. I don´t want to get banned myself for trying to explain this, I recommend you guys use the search function.
2. I honestly don´t think I or anyone else is really getting through anyway...
Peace

Dude, it's an internet forum...people need to lighten up. Go out have a beer and relax. I'm amazed that people are actually getting worked up over this.Banning loyal customers over requesting a new product be made is well.....I think you can figure it out.I can't believe people take this stuff so seriously. If anyone here has EVER owned successful company they would know that people will ALWAYS ask for things you may or may not be willing to do....I sure wouldn't stop them from asking though if they were loyal customers....LOL.Peace

I see things the same way but, what do I know????? I dont think half the forum members were pissed off. Maybe a few of them with one notable one??????????? Who knows?
I like cheese!
10K PAF's are available all day long and twice on Sundays! Call the Custom Shop and place your order. If enough of you do that then the 10K might one day make itnto the main production lineup! (just like the phat cats and the C-5!)
But to beatch about it in numerous threads is quite silly.
If there is a huge demand placed on the Custom Shop, they will eventually have to move it to main production. At this point, the ball is in Your Court, 10K PAF Fans!!!
Thread open. Let's confine all 10K discussions to this one thread. I'll moderate seeing how much down time I have!Bring it!
Ugh, no, I´m fine with what I read about it so far. I don´t care about any 10k PAFs. It´s a non-issue to me.
I'm done discussing this pickup, but this word quot;threatquot; thrown around all the time is starting to annoy me. Duncan doesn't make it. Fine. So if I say, quot;OK, I'll go somewhere elsequot;...it's perceived as a quot;threatquot;??!! And I'm *not* picking on Evan..it was mentioned many times before by others. If the 10K PAF wont show up in the production line because of business/marketing/cost decisions, then Duncan and others should be well aware that in a business, sometimes people need to go elsewhere to get what they want, and labeling such decisions as a quot;threatquot; is akin to trying to attract flies with vinegar.
Done
Evan is a big boy, he can defend himself. January NAMM is the biggest time of year for the MI. I have been quite lax in hanging out on the Pickup forum. I will try to spend more time here and let Evan take care of the highly stressful NAMM stuff.
If you force the Custom Shop production schedule such that they are spending too large a percentage of their time on one pup spec, the quot;businessquot; will be forced to move production out to the floor (a wonderful problem to have.)
I will say that Evan is rather unique in this industry in the time he spends here. The SD Company values this forum. They even hoteled us and fed us for a weekend several months back, AND let us wind our own pickups for free!
We are all human. We all hit our frustration point at different times.
Where does the name SDeco come from?

Oh I know. We discussed the whole matter via PM I just find this quot;threatquot; thing as insulting.

Why would I do such a thing when every other major manufacturer makes a similar pickup in their line for less $??? I also can get custom handwounds for half the price of a Duncan Handwound. I'm not quot;cheapquot;. I will pay for quality and what I want. As everyone knows I've dropped PLENTY of $ guitars recently trying to find what I want. However, this, for me is a principle issue. The whole boutique movement has been based on PAFs..of all varieties...not on Dave Mustaine or Dimebag sig pups. Obviously the other major manufacturers realized this and this is why they now offer such quot;Hotquot; or 10K PAF's in their production lines, and not quot;sigquot; pups.
 guess I *was* done I actually LOVE discussing this issue..it when the insults started flying (from both sides) that I got ticked. I've worked in marketing amp; Ramp;D and done testing for both in another industry. The subject fascinates me.
i know this might sound silly...whats a PAF and what does it sound like?
i know it's a pickup...but why is it called PAF?
