Well I bit the bullet and scored a pretty good deal on a used JCM2000 DSL 100, $799 in mint condition. I was really hoping to get a 50wt in the $700 area but the one I had my eye on disappeared. Still happy though, sounds great, very strong amp. I'd like to really open it up but that's a bt tough at the house. Got to get a nice jam going before the gig this month to get it dialed in.
Cool amp and a great price!!!
keep us posted on what you think after you get to crank it!
Cool!
In my experience 100w Marshalls have more bottom end and a generally 'bigger' less compressed tone than the equivalent 50w model. Having said that, I love my 50w Jubilee. It's all good stuff!
Gotta love the M word.
I really like the DSL series....Very Fender-like clean tone also....Great amp and best of luck with it brother..
I was really happy with the cleans when I was checking it out but the 800-ish sounds this has are great, near this old 2210 I love that I use occassionally that I can never seem to pry away from its owner. the real higain was a bit fizzy but I really didn't get to tweak it much, I generally don't go overboard anyway with that. As long as its reliable I think I'll be real happy with it.
Well.. the words quot;Wattagequot; and quot;Marshallquot; certainly mesh together well That's cool bro. I was just playing one of those last week. Like Simon Says the 100 watt version does seem to have that nice big bottom end. I actually like the higher gain channel, but with lower gain settings. It does not sound a lot like a classic Marshall but I definitely like the tone. The clean sounds are really nice with that amp too.
I hope it works out for you.

To me.....100 watter means more headroom, tighter bottom end.... 50 watter....Earlier breakup, less clean high volume headroom, slightly looser feel, though the output sections of the amp are the same...Not a huge difference between the volume levels and both are ear splitting loud!
So far I am digging it, I think one of the pre's is a little noisy so I'll have to go through them but I am pretty happy with it. I ended up doing what Stevo said, running the hi gain channel with a middle setting on the gain and getting a great sound. Full bass and mids with the treble about 3.5/4, very Marshall-y but a bit more modern. Not quite as warm a dn tough sounding as a good JCM800 but it'll suit me I think.
A/B'd it with my XXX I was able to get pretty close to my main sound on three. The Marshall has a little nicer clean and a far more traditional reverb, Peavey verbs are always wound so tight which is appropiate on such a high gainer as the XXX I guess. The Marshall doesn't have quite as smooth a high end as the Peavey but I am attributing that to the tubes, I've got a month to decide what I am doing so no rush or panic, nice not to have to deal with buyer's regret. I even get to gig with it before I decide for certain.
