I must say, it sounds pretty cool! Its got a very tight bottom end and definitly a lot of mid which adds to the scream. The breed in the neck goes with it very nicely, although i actually get a slight hum out of them when i stop which the noise get cancels out eventually, which is weird cos the stock pups never did that. The pickups are definitly working as humbuckers or i'd know about it in terms of tone, but still that little buzz annoys me
I might Stick an evolution in next week and see what the difference is between them, as the JB is pretty hot but maybe could have been hotter.
Overall Seems to be a great pickup, and also deals with clean very well to my surprise. The harmonics are also great.

Actually, the bottom end on the JB isn't all that tight compared to most other pickups in it's output range.

I agree. I also think that there aren't many passive pickups that are hotter than the JB. You won't find many pickups that hot that do have a real tight bottom end. I have no expereice with the Dimebucker, but it's the only one I can think of that should have a real tight bottom end.

Really? How much tighter amp; hotter do you reckon an evo is?

Did you make sure that you got the bare wire soldered to ground? Also some SD's and Dimarzio's can be out of phase when mixed.

You have stated the reasons the JB is my favorite pickup (for most applications), my friend. I wouldn't swap it for anything, if I were you. I don't think you'll get much hotter with a passive pickup, though you can get a little hotter. If you do, you'll lose some of the other things you like.

But if you do want to switch, there's definitely some people that can help you. I don't know much about the Evolution.
