I'd like to start off saying, this is the best set of pickups I've ever heard, the difference was night and day.Take a Qp, add some lowend, add some twang, make its cleans as good as a vintage tele pickup (with extra warmth), and add some more grit. And that pretty much describes the Muy Grande in the bridge, but its far far far more sensitive and much quieter than the Qp.The Tallboy in the neck is amazing, everyone at the guitar shop was drooling when they tried it out. Its everything you want a tele neck pickup to be, only un-molested by a chorme cover. In Rio Grande tradition, I left the neck un-covered and I'm glad i did.The middle position sounds equally as excellent, and it's also humcanceling.
This is probably the best set of pickups I've heard in general, just flat amazing... Seymour Hates me now...
I've heard only good/great things about the Rios. But I've never tried any of them! Maybe I should...
If you want a more vintage sound, get the tallboy set.
The Muy Grande is a fairly hot pickup *8.4k* but it's in the sweet spot so you get awesome gritty ballsy gain, but you maintain great cleans without the icepick effect.I love em, but my words can't do them justice, you really would have to hear them for your self. The soundclips on the rio grande site are pretty darn true.
The Rio p-90s that came in my Robin Avalon flat-top are great. Never tried the Rio humbuckers but I am sure they are great too.
P.S.
Hi Lew
I just wanted to follow up....
Its 2 am now and I can't put this guitar down for the life of me. Funk 49 sounds awesome on the sucker. Playing a tele clean sure did improve my sloppy shredding. I love this guitar now, its now my No.1 for sure.
Seriously, if you have a tele, RUN to the store and buy this pickup set, the middle postion is so good, its actually my fav position, and its hum canceling!
The new pickups sure woke this thing up.
