Does anyone know (in treble, bass, mids term) what the tone of the epiphone alnico 5 high output pickups are (the ones on epi les pauls)?
what are they based on etc?
I need to know this to decide which p/ups to get
what tone do you want from the epi? i have put a set of 59's in an epi lp and it sounded great if you want a classic lp type tone
I was going to put a C-5 in the Bridge and a '59 in the neck. But wasn't to certain about theshortage of mids because the epiphone p/ups seemed to lack nice mids (with an AC-30) and I thought that if they had more mids then the C-5 and '59 then the tone might be a bit thin (i think my lp might be alder not sure cos it is made in china and is classified alder/mahogany)
It's tough to actually quantify the pickups in your guitar because they aren't exactly the most consistant pickups. I say go for the C5/59, and if it's not exactly what you want, come here and describe how they sound and what changes you want, then switch them within 21 days.
I kinda liked my stock Epi LP pickups. If they were just a tad bit hotter, they'd be perfect for me. Mine was made in China as well and I just threw a Custom Custom in it. Holy cow, what a responsive monster it has become.
I believe the stock Epi pickups are based off the 57 Classics.
There was a thread not too long ago about the woods of the Epi's. Check it out. Good info in there. It made me question mine but I think I got mahogany.
