Has anyone tried the JB in the neck position on a LP? or is there a neck version of the JB?
the neck version of the jb is the jazz neck model
the jb can sound nice in the neck. i used a jb in the neck of a jackson i had with a distortion in the bridge. you do have to be a little worried about muddy tone, if you have a brighter guitar it can work fine
I use a JB at the neck, and it´s what Jeremy says. Yery thick, a bit dark clean, and it can get muddy if you´re not careful. But it SIIIINGS like a ****ing Valkyrie
use it in the neck split and you are in strat territory for rythm, use it full on and its a bit plummy for rythm, but for leads yooooeeeeeee!
I have it in my LP right now but it's pretty muddy, cleans are kind of dull, too round and has no sparkle like it has in bridge position. It very dark too but has the most amazing lead tone I've ever heard.
I'm thinking about getting a DD and then swap out the ceramic magnet for an A5. It should get close to a JB neck model.
If you like to play loud and also like a genuinely clean tone for chords, it's hard to get that from a neck humbucker wound over 8K. The JB is wound to 16.4K or more!
I suspect that the folks who like the JB as a neck pickup do not play clean chords through it at high volumes. I suspect they're rockers who play with a semi distorted to totally saturated lead tone and like to drive the daylights out of thier amps.
The JB does that beautifully if that's your bag...and it will split into a great sounding and clean single coil.
Personally, at full output it's not clean enough for my tastes to use as a neck pickup: sounds dark and wooly to me.
For the neck pickup, I'd go with a Jazz or 59N...or A2Pro or Pearly Gates.
