Hi guys, brand spanking new user here, so how do?
Anyway, I just bought myself a nice Ibanez RG1527, and as brilliant as it is, the pickups really let it down, so I want to supercharge it into a truly fantastic guitar with some really nice pickups.
Now, I'm fairly biased towards DiMarzio, and I was thinking perhaps a Blaze/PAF7 set would be just the thing, but as it is, I've already got another 7 String incoming which will have an Evolution/Air Norton set, so that's already going to be a fairly screaming metal machine, and I've got a Tone Zone/Air Norton set in another guitar... So I don't want all my guitars sounding too samey, you know?
I was looking at various s that are available for 7 string models, such as the Invader, JB, Jazz, but what has me confuzzled is whether or not they're F-Spaced pickups for 7 strings, as my RG1527 is a tremelo equiped guitar. I'd want to be sure of what's what before buying.
Anyway, if you've got some recommendations, I'd be happy to hear them. I play music that's Heavy, Technical and Progressive, so think Dream Theater, Death, Opeth, Cynic and so forth, so the pickups have to be very clear and sharp sounding, nothing that's just super high-output that won't sound good on clean.
Thanks for any replies.
Welcome to the forum, bro. I'm a virgin in the 7-string pup arena, so I'll step aside and let someone with some experience with them help you out. Good luck on your quest.
Thanks.
if you want to try duncans id say a jazz neck and custom bridge would be great for your style
I don't know about the spacing issue or dimarzios, but from my experience with the jazz and custom, I'd agree with jeremy that they fit your description very well.
Thanks guys.
Anyone have any info on the spacing though? That would be a big help.
For 7's I went through most of the Dimarzio catalog.
The Evolutions were nice, but were a little mid-rangey for my tastes. To get them to sound good you really needed to back down on the gain.
The PAF Pro in the neck and a Tone Zone in the bridge were my mainstays. The PAF had a ton of warmth and the TZ just cut through unbelievably.
For any metal guitar this time around I'd easily do the PAF Pro/TZ combo again.
