ok heres the dillio. i have a warmoth strat body. it has on it a stew- mac neck. its ok, sounds nice, but is not very comfortable, the frets stick out, buzzes, and isnt in tune all over the fret board (is actually very NOT in tune). so i am going to get a new neck. i dont want to wait 8 million years, so i was looking at the warmoth showcase models.
ok heres my first question: if i buy one with the holes already drilled for the screws, will it be PERFECTY alligned? my stew mac neck came with no holes, and i had them professionally drilled, so that they are alligned correctly. i am afraid this will not be the case with a neck with pre drilled holes.
second question: compound radii: i play mostly what i suppose is modern strat, which the site says is 9-1/2 radius. will i be comfortable playing on a compoud radius neck?
3rd question: what is the difference between warmoth's vintage, vintage modern, and i think quot;proquot; models? (in terms not listed on their site)
thanks for any help

Sounds like you need a fret dress and a setup

probably not.. that´s why pros drill them themselves

Nobody can really predict this for you, as stupid as it sounds the only way to find out if you like a compound radius is to play one.

The differences are mainly in the Truss rod style and resulting construction, thereby influencing certain other factors including quot;ease of usequot; and tone.

does warmoth and usa customs offer necks that are not predrilled?
1. if you buy a strat neck from warmoth, it will match up with your warmoth body just fine. they design their fender licensed parts to match with other fender parts as well as their own. I think you would be taking a risk getting pre-drilled holes in a USACG neck.
2. Compound radii necks dont feel wierd in the slightest to me. I went from a fender neck with a constant radius all down the neck to a compound radius, and i love it. also, it didnt feel wierd or akward at all, it played great right out of the box.
3. the only differences i know on the different types of warmoth necks are what they have on their site. they just have to do with the construction, truss rod types, etc, etc.

USACG necks are not pre drilled, unless you request it
as Zerb suggested, you have to decide the compound radius question for yourself by trying different necks
I have a USACG neck that is 7.5/9.5 compound radius that I love, but I have other necks that are straight 9.5quot; and 12quot; radii, and I like those too - just different
I would suggest emailing Tommy @ USACG, and asking for some help dialing in the perfect neck for you.

Tommy is one of the nicest guys you'll ever have the pleasure of dealing with.
Sounds like your existing neck needs a fret dress and setup like Zerb said. It could be made into a killer neck.
I would go for the USACG over Warmoth anyday! BTW, I personally do not like compound radius necks that much! I think they are way over-rated.

its the neck in general. i dont like the shape, or the size. or even the size of the frets.
Just re-checked the Warmoth site and was surprised to see that the quot;Vintage Modernquot; necks are available now with a compound radius (didn't used to be).
IMHO the double expanding truss rod in the Warmoth quot;Proquot; are heavy tone sinks. The truss rod channel is big amp; deep requiring removal of a lot of wood, and that's a ton of metal in the neck. An A/B test with a relatively crappy Mexican Strat neck really surprised me - the MIM neck sounded so much better in terms of clean highs and natural tone that I put up with the smaller frets and slight twist rather than use the Warmoth neck. YMMV.
There is nothing wrong with the quot;Vintagequot; or quot;Vintage Modernquot; necks from Warmoth. I just prefer to work with Tommy Rosamond at USACG (by a mile... ).
Regardless of who made the body or who makes the neck for you, I'd drill the holes myself or get it done locally. Just a small variance in placement of the neck pocket vs. the bridge could mean either a treble side or bass side string falling off

I'm a bit disappointed to know that Warmoth charges extra for a straight radius neck. I can't believe that it's more expensive and time intensive to construct a straight over a compound neck.
