I aint realy a lp kind of player but ive recently got a hudge GAS build up for one for some reason after trying and mesing arround with tons of them i stunbled on a awsome piece of guitar! It sounded great and much better compared to the others for some reason tho the pups are burstbuckers (most of lp where, exept for the studios) and im not to fond of them, im sure a touch of sd could fix that.. so im just wondering but what pickups would give a good vintage quot;Pagequot; type sound to a les paul?
A lot depends on your touch on the guitar (how hard you hit the strings, how thick your pick is, how heavy your string guage is), but a good starting point would be either Duncan's Seth Lovers or Antiquities.
If you want to go outside of Duncan, try a Jon Moore quot;Big Dogquot; in the bridge (keep Seth Lover neck). That baby barks and honks like you wouldn't believe...
For a vintage Page type sound '59s would probably get you closest. Their alnico 5 magnets give them a brighter more aggressive tone than the Seths and Ants. All 3 ('59s, Seths, Ants) are great pickups for vintage Les Paul tone.
'59s - bright, aggressive, glassy, strong bass, less prominent in the mids
Seths/Ants - still plenty of highs but less bright than '59s, smooth with stronger mids and a softer bass.
Yea i tought about the antiquity.. i paly both hard and soft depending on how i want the guitar/amp to react.. and i generaly use .009 strings or .010 on my strat tho since ive never had a les paul, i might go for diferent ones on it.. i think the strings on the paul i tried where .008 tho and yea id consider going any brand, i never heared of that one you just named, i was thinking maybe going with a '59 in the neck and ive also tought of trying the Dimarzio PAF Classic's (i want covers, tho maybe ill go with a uncovered bridge)

those sound great and glassy is a good thing, and something im looking for with this guitar
Custom 5/59N nickel covered is my favorite for hard rock/metal
59 set is great for a very natural sounding all purpose rock/fusion/blues/pop pickup
Seth Lover set is great for blues rock and blues. Smooth and sweet!
Custom Custom/Seth N is very popular for someone who likes a Seth set, but wants the bridge to be a little beefier.
Those combos kick ass in all my LP's.
'59, definatley. You can't go wrong with it.
first of all, i didnt know canadians say aint. Secondly, i would suggest 59's.
If price isn't an issue get the SD Custom Shop Jimmy Page pickups. I have a set and they really do get right up on his tone and vibe.
If price is an issue get the 59s. I have a set of those too and get are pretty darn close to the JPs. The JPs are a little hotter (high 8k in the bridge) but it's more of a tonal than output difference.
The Antiquities are great pickups and I have set of those too but they are better at getting at more of an Almann Bros Band tone. They are definately lower in output with more warmth and mids than the JPs or 59s.

lol.. well im not realy canadian, i just live here.
and yea my original idea was a '59 in the neck and for the bridge i wasnt sure.. i didnt know there was a JP custom shop model, maybe i should try a JP bridge and '59 neck. Btw how do i go by to get custom shop sd pups? just order them at a local shop? or do i have to call sd to have it shiped straight home?
I'm pretty sure that you have to call the SD Custom Shop to get the JP pickups and thats what I did for all my CS pickups. It's been awhile since I ordered a set but I know I didn't go through a dealer.
When I ordered my C-5/PGn set through the CS I got to talk to MJ and she asked a few questions about what I wanted and then wound them for me.
A JP in the bridge and a 59n would be a great way to get the slightly hotter JP bridge pickup and keep the budget reasonable.
I'm partial to Antiquities. Very warm and smooth. For a little more bite, go with the Seths. Both are great for that old British Blues sound (i.e. real PAF tone).Jeff
what are the methods of payment available if i order directly from SD?
I would go with Seth's, but '59's and PG's are close behind.
I think I sent them a check but I'm sure there are other accepted methods.
cool, check is good.. i dont own credit cards so sometimes im deprived of stuff cuz they only take plastic money... i should probably get one but i never got arround to geting one :P
Get a debit card. They're great for internet stuff where plastic is helpful.

Debit cards in Canada are different. Thye don't work where you normally would use a Credit card. If you meant like a Visa Check Card etc... Interac works differently.

yup...
Thats a drag. I receintly cut up all my credit cards because I'm far too naughty with quot;freequot; money but the mastercard/debit card works for a lot of internet/real world purchases where sending large amounts of cash or checks are impractical.
