Howdy folks!
I've been working on this '54 type strat for a while. I've been busy at work, so I finally just took it in to my luthier to cut the nut and set it up.
here's a pic:
sounds great through my Victoria Double D!Peace
Beautiful! makes me want a classic strat...
too bad I can't afford that Well, Rock On Bro!
wow! that's great looking. You did a good job!
you guys are fast!
haha
let me clarify ... I put this together from a USACG neck and body,Callaham hardware, and Antiquities.
there are quite a few pics on my site under '54 strat, including the specs, and details on the Tru Oil finish on the neck
Gary . . . that neck is beautiful. Nice, clean, understated . . . but still gorgeous! Nice job.
Kinda what I've come to expect from you.
Artie
Wow, sweet guitar curly!
I'm really liking that trans white/cream with the subtle grain and white pickguard combo.
Nice!!! It really has that 50's Fender vibe. Good work!
Shtunning! Nice work buddy...love the color! But where's the blue??? Lew
I'd kill for a neck like that!
That is a great looking strat!!!!!
WhoFan
Curly...I dig it brother! Very nice...I always liked the blond with maple neck but everybody does it with gold and makes it a Mary Kay...I like it with the nickel!!!

the blue is in my soul, Lew
thanks guys ... I just test drove it in my tweed Deluxe - sounds very warm (again), and the tone differences between positions is pretty noticeable
the Antiquities are probably a better match for this ash strat than they were in my alder strat ... certainly more quot;period correctquot;
a lot of fun .. maybe because I have a few strats now, they all seem to have such distinct personalities.Originally Posted by the guy who invented fireVery nice...I always liked the blond with maple neck but everybody does it with gold and makes it a Mary Kay...I like it with the nickel!!!
yeah, I like Mary Kayes, too, but I prefer the nickel hardware ... Mary Kayes are a little more white, too .. like Seymour's tele
Very nice look. Classy classic. I'm on full guitar/gear hiatus mode...so I'll live through you guys GAS...hehe
Curly...You have some beautiful guitars and this one is no exception! Very nice...Looks like a Mary Kay strat...
Very nice guitar, Curly. Enjoy playing it!
Looks great! I love the shade of that maple neck! Are going to put a waterslide logo on it, or not? I'd probably do that, plus an aged white switch tip. Wish it were mine!

Joneser,
you have a good eye! that white switch tip bothered me a little, so I'll try to find an aged one ...
I won't put a Fender logo on it - the headstock is a little different, and I'd rather have my own logo if I put one on ..
and yeah, the neck has nice figure
See if you can find a Curlycaster logo! What's the radius, and are the frets vintage or bigger? Man, I want that Victoria! That thing is sweet!
Gearjoneser,
I was working on a logo like this:
unfortunately, some of that stuff is on my old hard drive
the neck has a vintage compound radius - 7.25/ 9.5, with a '54 profile that goes from a soft V (.860) to a C at the 12th (.930), and 6150 frets (med. Jumbos); the nut is 1.650 - it's in between 1-5/8quot; and 1-11/16quot;
it's a very comfortable neck - it's a little beefy, but the shape puts the bulk in your hand nicely
as for the Vicky, I've tweaked the tubes a little, and swapped the Greenbacks it had for Jensen P12Qs. It sounds better IMO, but I might try one G12H, or a combo of an Eminence Red Fang and Cannibis Rex... I'd like to tighten up the bottom just a bit, and that's just a little tricky on a tweed Deluxe circuit without losing the character of the nice overdrive.
overall, though, it's just a warm, responsive tweed amp
Very nice-hot amp too!
