Last night I Pulled my 59/Custom A2 Hybrid up and put an A5 magnet in it's place...Today I was doing some Gov't Mule stuff on a very cool SLO 100 preset I dialed in recently...I got that great Soldano gain and retained great note articulation also...I picked up a 59B pickup today for $45 and I'm wondering if the 59 would be even better than the 59/C Hybrid that's in the guitar right now?

I'm very happy that I'm able to dial some great tones up from this $600 Valvetronix head...
very cool, john

is your tokai a japanese or korean?

Limited Edition Japan quot;59 Replicaquot;.....Lefty to boot..

I've been getting the same great articulate response on my 60 head with my Agile double cut with the C5 in the bridge. The Soldano setting is my favorite by far! Super articulate when playing single notes, but awsome smooth gain when you hit a chord. And the sustain goes on forever.

I agree....The SLO 100 setting is very gainey for our classic rock styles, but I Love the gain and feel and sustain of that model when ripping out stuff at home alone...It's one of my favorite settings also...I'm finding that I have quite a few quot;favoritequot; settings with this amp...The Boss GE-7 is great because it really allows me to hone in on those Marshall mids I feel that the Plexi and 800 models lack...I'm still amazed at what this amp does and for what it is and the price I payed for it...I've been able to get alot more out of this amp then I ever expected, plus it looks very cool also...I'm very happy with mine! I'd bet that my A5 Hybrid 59/Custom is pretty close to your C5,though I didn't care for the C5 or the CC by themselves....I'll probably like a 59B or I may go back to the PG down the road? My ears are always changing on me..
It depends (as always) on your guitar if a '59 pickup will work out in the neck. At the moment I'm testing one in the Tokai Love Rock of my friend, and it seems it's too bassy or boomy there. But if your guitar doesn't have a lot of bass response, it might be a good choice nevertheless.

Pearly Gates rule in a LP. Try one and you'll never stray.

Hey, it happened to me.

John,

How do you EQ the 800/PLexi settings with the GE-7? (i.e what are you cutting/boosting)

Like both you and Jump, I end up on the Soldano more when I want a heavy Marshall-like tone. The Plexi is decent (not enough...ermm..balls, I guess I would say), but I can't dial in a satisfactory sound out of the 800/TSL to save my @$$. They sound too quot;smallquot;...like a recording.

I'm at work currently and so I don't have my pedal in front of me...Tomorrow I'll send you a photo of how I have my pedal set for the UK 70 and UK 80 tones...It helped those tones alot in that I was able to hone in pretty specifically to the mids and low mid tones I felt were lacking...I Lose the stereo spread when I plug my GE-7 into the loop, but I think it's better that way because it's as if the tone projects better in mono...When I use my other settings and I want to retain the stereo spread,I just reach behind the amp and pull the plugs out just enough to lose the loop connections...The eq was a big factor in correcting some of the weird tones I was getting...

That's a beautiful Tokai John, I've been gassing for a really nice LP for a while now.

I run my Boss GE-7 into the loop of my Valvetronix head and this is pretty close to where the settings stay for my UK70 ans UK80 model presets...Sometimes I bump up 3.2k and 1.6k even a little more. The level control is in between the click spot and the first notch and I also like to run it one notch up..Notice the high performance red led on my pedal...LOL
