Hi guys.. I posted the other day and told you that I was in the process of getting a used Ibanez RG450, but I think I made a mistake, or actually the seller made a mistake and it's a RG 550 as I looked all over the web and even at a couple Ibanez web sites and couldn't find any mention of a RG model 450.. but found a ton of 550 stuff.. This one seems to be made in 1998, and I thought it had the cheap TRS trem, but it seems maybe it's an edge or low pro edge.. Can anyone tell me the difference? See the pic at from : localhost/209.200.112.112.temp/i.jpg ) It's not a great pic, but you can see it there at least.. What's the difference and does it matter as far as quality? I take it the low pro is just a lowered version so you don't hit it with your hand? I ask all this as I had a 470 RG I think it was, and the trem wasn't that good so I blocked it, and stuck new pups in it, and it sounded great.. I loved the neck on it too and it's the same as this one, except this one is even better as it's maple! I'm thinkning about getting a new reverse headstock maple neck made at USA Custom guitars.. They said they might be able to do it.. It would be different in radious and thickness as well as having some carbon rods inserted like Carvin's which helps greatly with sustain.. I'm convinced that it does anyway.. I'm also going to direct mount the pickups in this guitar.. So I'll have a killer blues / rock machine when I'm finished I hope!

Also, I bought or will send out the money today to buy a Duncan Distortion pickup / trembucker for this guitar from a guy on the board.. I'm curious what single coil would split well with it, and what humbucker would work in the neck? I'm thinking a pearly gates in the neck would be great? I dont' know.. I'm wanting to get that Jimi Hendrix in the neck pocket sound for the neck humbucker, or something similar.. I want to use the mid single for clean passages and arpegio clean stuff.. Any suggestions? I'd likee to have a stacked mid single coil to get rid of the noise.. It doesn't have to be a duncan pickup either if you think there's something better..
Thanks in advance..
Tim

The picture isn't working, but RG550s are pretty high quality (higher than 450s). Could you upload the picture to photobucket or something? If you do that, I (or someone else) could figure out which trem and guitar model you have. Or if you could look at the back of the headstock, if it reads quot;Made in Japanquot; or the serial number starts with an F, then you have a 550 and you're in luck.

It does say made in Japan, or just japan on the back and the serial number is like F 98 something, something, something, something.. I don't remember off the top of my head.. I'll look at the pic again and see what's wrong, but it should work.. Just uploaded it, so I probably gave you the wrong path.. Let me look..
Thanks so much.. Check out the pic if you can.. Sorry for all the bother, but I'm wondering about the differences between the trems to? If you happen to know?

Thanks so much..

Looks like it's an RG550 reissue (Edge tremolo, very nice).

Thank you.. I found it that the last guy put a different bar asembly and bar on it.. I have to order the same to get it back to original..

Tim

how can you tell? could you diagnose the kind of tremolo on my recent purchase? My trem

could you diagnose the kind of tremolo on my recent purchase?

Edge Floyd, good one.
The other actually looks like a black OFR, if it is so, do not change it.
But it would mean that the body has been plugged and redrilled.
Can you get a picture that is closer up?

Ibanez Edge, hard to tell from the angle but I´d say more likely a Lo-Pro Edge.

The one on the 550 is an original Edge, at least that´s what it looks like when I blow the pics up a bit.....

BTW, this is the one from Chrisguitars, or???
