Hello. I'm new hear. I thought maybe someone could give some coments on the Seymore Duncan Jeff Beck ( JB ) humbucker... I've had one for like ten years, but I don't have any references on other SD. I like it a lot. It has survived many pickups over the years. I have another question; Is there a Seymore Duncan pickup that matches the one that Edward Van Halen had rewound in hus early days?

Well, other than that quot;JB quot; stands for Jazzy/Bluesy and not Jeff Beck, I´m not too sure what you want to know....

Hey man, welcome to the forum...if you do a search on the forum you will find TONS of info on these 2 things. The JB is one of the most popular pickups, and the Brown Sound is one of the most discussed topics here...lots if good info here, good luck

The reason soooo many guys like the JB is b/c it is unlike any other pup on the market. It drives an amp well, but isn't dark sounding, or brittle sounding. It has a large upper mids spike that lends itself to the guitars range.

As far as the original VH pup, check out some thread on the 78 model. Any on the PAF's will send you in the right direction, but A2 magnets will really get you there. The Custom Custom can get you a more modern VH sound.

BTW Welcom To the Forum!

Kinda like EVH stands for Evenly Voiced Harmonics and not Edward Van Halen?!? The JB is one of the most versatile pickups SD makes (IMO). As to the Van Halen pickup, the EVH is considered the cream of the crop. Vhoholic has some great clips of VH songs that he did with the '59. You should check them out. With the right effects, you can get pretty close with the JB, too.

welcome to the forum all the advice above is right on....check out the
59' and EVH models for Van Halen
and for everything else its usually a JB or CC chris

Hey, People. Thanx a lot for the input. It's funny, cause I've been on the Plexi Palace BB, since I'm a Marshall freak so ( and a EVH fan, soundwise anyway )... The thing is that I've had this PU for as long I can remember, but i've never gotten in to it. Until now, that is. As you probably know I'm looking to get that sound from the early records of EVH. I don't know if this is the right place for this but I'll give it a try: this is a clip with a song from the second album. Could you try and listen if you think if my JB in the right direction? I'm not quite on top of the morning, but maybe you can hear what I'm talking about.

That sounds pretty damn close to me. Nice tone. If you REALLY want to nail Ed's tone, ask him for his hands and fingers (not trying to be a smarta**, just honest). That's the only way someone will truly sound like him with a rig like he played back then. Otherwise, you get really close, and you did. Sounds great.

Thanx Erik. Well, my own hands 'n fingers will have to do, I suppose... Anyway, sound wise I think it's OK to. If I really dig in to the sound I can hear a difference in the mids. It's like there's a little bit to big of a hump that goes down towards the lower ends of the mid range juuust a bit to much. If that hump were to be cut of a bit, it would ( in theory ) affect the higher ends a bit less and make it more bity, yet still smooth. Am I right?

That sounds great, man. The rhythm is right on, and the leads are pretty darn close. I'm of the opinion that EVH was just as likely to have used a JB as any of the others (Gosh I hope this doesn't start another war). You just proved that it easily could have been.
