OK...love this tune...never bothered tryin to learn it..til tonite

HOW IN THE HELL does Jake keep that walking F# going on the low e string while playing the power chords on the main rhythm?

F#-F# quot;Aquot; power chord (D amp; G strings both at 2nd fret)..F#F# quot;Equot; power chord (2nd fret for the d string 4th fret G string) F#F#, F# powerchord (4th fret D amp; 6th fret G string)

any trick to this other than havin a friggin huge spread or tunin up the low e string to F#?

GAHHHHhhhh

Jump to the higher note and back really quickly?

Capo maybe. but I doubt.

Or, he's got big friggin hands.

I used to play that live.... bar the second fret and really hold it down hard. When you make the stretch to the 6th fret you'll need it. The hardest thing is getting the A chord the second time around to be clean. It is hard to get that bar back on after you play the F# on the 9th fret. The leads in this one aren't that bad. I'll see if I can record myself playing that and post it. I don't remember exactly how Jake phrased that riff but I'll give it a try.... maybe I can dig up my Bark at the Moon CD I haven't seen in years! Good luck.

well, he has been known to play chords with his thumb in there as well..not over the top of the neck, but by bringing it right on top of the neck just like the rest of his fingers (if that makes sense)

he and another couple of players ( I wanna say lynch and dimartini, but I could be wrong) were screwing around wondering who could get the longest stretch..so he slapped his thumb in there...true story =)

It would impossible to use your thumb and still stretch up to the 6th fret... I tried it a second ago! It is pretty much like I remember, just really bar that first finger at the second fret and use your 3rd and pinky finger to reach the chords.

Anyway, here is a first take of me playing the main riff as I remember it... I am not sure if it is 100% correct since I haven't played it in well over 15 years. I also played an improvised version of the intro solo!! I can't remember every lick so don't laugh too hard

from : localhost/is called Half Ass Rebel... enjoy.

S75,

Yeah, I knew that Jake used his thumb on occasion, having been a bit floored when I saw him live doing it on the BatM tour And yeah, I tried..LOL. Also heard the story about the origin of the stretch...think you are right...George and Warren...

RGN..well, I've got absolutely no spread thanks to a slight birth defect with the joints in my fingers, so I guess I'm screwed (maybe I should forget about Jake and look to Iiomi as inspiration...hee hee)

However, I jes wanna say THANKS for posting that Great chops...damn fine job, especially not having played it in so long, you damn near nailed it!
