Only reason I ordered from them is they are the only ones that have the ESP in stock for once in 3 months. I would have much preferred buying from music123

I'd never get a guitar from one of those big mail order places. I'd be worse off if it arrived undamaged! Those places are clearing houses for defective, seconds, built-on-Monday-or-Friday, whatever you wanna call them factory screwed up instruments.

I ordered all my pickups from them and it was fine.

Yeah, I wouldn't go so far as to say don't buy anything from them. There are actually a lot of great deals to be found in the blowouts and clearance items. But not a guitar. That's not like buying a piece of electronic equipment.

A Couple years ago they were selling Jem 7VSBL for $999 which is a great deal. I placed an order and also bought a case for case for shipping. The operator said quot;yea, we recommend buying a case for protecting the guitar during shippingquot;. One problem, I got two boxes: one with the case single boxed and one with the Jem single boxed.

well, small stuff is okay I suppose. Edit: never buy a guitar from them. It was placed in a box with a styrofoam sheet and paper packing and that's it.

That happened to me too, they sent them in seperate shipments. This was the last straw with them.

I order from zzounds and music123 if I order online. They've been cool. Never ordered anything huge from them, though.

Zzounds is the best. Most of the time I receive an item from them two days after I order it! Their packaging is top notch. I've never purchased a guitar from them, but if it's like their pedals, it'll get their perfectly fine, fast.

I'm not knocking yer Jem (I've never even played one!), but even for $999, I don't see why they are priced so high. Don't they have the same bodies (essentially), necks, and bridges as the high numbered RG's that go for several hundred less? Granted, they have the upgraded pickups...

the only place online i use is music123. theyre warehouse is 40 minutes from my house, so stuff cant get too damaged. i bought the gibson and ex-351 from them, and theyre my main guitars. a lotta the time the only places that have exactly what i want are big online stores

I bought a mini-Strat for my son thru zzounds and it arrived properly packaged, double-boxed with styrofoam packing. I never ordered an axe through M-F, but have bought a lot of other stuff from 'em with no probs....but will admit that some of their packaging techniques are questionable. I've opened packages from them and found everything I ordered loosely thrown in with a small inflated packing-bag into a bigger than neccesary box. Fortunately, and so far, no harm/no foul.
I totally believe what RGN said about ordering a guitar and the sales rep. saying that buying a case with it would ensure it's safe arrival, and then having both arrive separately. That definitely sounds like a M-F thing for sure.
I guess maybe the best thing a person could do when buying a guitar from M-F, or any other online store, would be to document the sales rep.'s name and/or ID#, and have that rep. email a copy in the form of some kind of transcript as to the details of the transaction including shipping instructions. Hold the seller accountable for their goods as much as possible, and hope gentle handling by the deliverer gets it safely to your door.

I normally buy everything I have out of the recycler.com or Ebay. I made the exception this time, to buy the Engraved Seths from them, but only because that's the only place I could get them. I agree about buying guitars from online superstores. They seem to get the imperfect stuff that storefront businesses send back to the manufacturer.

At this point, the only place I would mail order a guitar from would be Guitartrader.com or Music One Workshop (they have a great tech there that does a full setup (fret dressing, nut shaping, intonation, etc...) on every guitar they sell).

Me too,
I bought a $2000.00 Dollar amp from MF, and the box it came in looked liked it had been shipped back and forth about 5 times, and the amp was defective!

They just obviously don't care about their customers. Which is okay because they have one less now.

Speaking from the perspective of a music store employee.. I'd say that's how about 70% of our guitars arrive from the manufacturers.
