I changed my sperzel-equipped strat's strings on friday before a gig, and noticed that the G and B strings were constantly slipping flat when stretched. Normally after a few stretches they stop slipping unless you really wrench them, but this time, the kept giving up a little under medium stretching. Replacing the strings only partially hepled too.

Has anyone had this problem? -remedies? -is it wear on the tuner?

is it equipped also with a whammy system? it could be that. if you wind it up and strecth them correctly, there shouldnt be any problems from the tuners. unless the whole tuner machine is slipping but if they are screwed in properly... maybe also they are sticking in the nut and later on are coming loose and making it drop. if this is the case, take an ordinary graphite pencil and rub it on the nut so that some of the graphite will lubricate the slots, and once the strings are on, wipe it away.

I've never seen a Sperzel wear. Maybe your nut slots are wearing down.

The bridge is set flat, and the tuners are mounted tightly. I'll check the nut, but I've never had any problems with this guitar over countless gigs. up until now, the sperzels have been rock solid...

Man, that's puzzling. I've never had that happen. You cranked the lock down relatively tight, right?

i'd change a couple of your tuners around and see if you still have the problem

I see this every once in awhile with locking tuners. Sometimes the pins that actually lock the strings are a little short inside the tuner. You can try swapping out the pins with the 5th and 6th string tuners and see if that helps.

If you have the staggered, in line 6 set make sure you have the shortest tuner posts on the 1st and 2nd strings.

If all else fails you can make new, slightly longer pins. Get a couple #6 finish nails from a hardware store and cut them down to slightly longer than your exsisting pins. You can access the locking pins by removing the lock nut. They should slide right out. I usually cut the nails down with a dremel and round the ends.

Works like a charm.

N1 Robert, this is essentially word for word what I was going to post
