I am almost 100% set on getting a 50/12 VHT combo as i was really impressed by the tone.

i did however listen to some of the sound clips on the Splawn site and was very impressed. of course i cant hear the Splawn live cause i live in Greece and i wouldnt ever get something without completly testing it.

i was really impressed by the 'Brown sound' that the Splawn gets. the only thing is that i 'think' that the VHT gets almost if not a better 'brown sound' as the splawn but has a ton of other sounds as well.

any comments on this to whoever has heard both?

thanks!!

Never played or even seen a VHT........

BUT I had a Quick Rod (if not for long!) amp; it sounded just like the clips....It friggin' rocked amp; the cleans were very good. Footswitch had blinding LEDs on them amp; it switched with no popping anywhere.

Very well made amp....just a WHOLE LOTTA' AMP, even on the 1/2 power switch. And it just didn't sound quot;rightquot; with a Weber MASS thrown on it.

Scott is very easy to deal with too!!!

Hope it helped !

I've played a VHT before..never a splawn...but every single clip I've heard of splawn amps makes me want one =) heheh..either the quick rod or the pro mod...

I played a VHT pittbull...alotta guys swear by them..I find them to be a little sterile sounding....then again, it's all a matter of preference...

Do Splawn sell worldwide? If they do I'm saving up for one!

Like anything, I would imagine if you're willing to pay, he'll ship......but they're good about answerring e-mails; give him a shout!

PUCKBOY99 what are some other amps that you tried and liked more or didnt than the Splawn?

apart from nailing EVH what else does it do?
is it real sweet sounding? sound good on very low volume?

tell me more if you can.

does the guy handwire them? are they point to point?

thanks again

VHT's are more quot;dryquot; sounding..and a little more modern, though they can get close. They are almost quot;too tightquot;. Theys ound incredible though. I think they are more like a modernized marshall..more pristine and detailed while being more brutal at the same time.

The Splawn IMO, will give you a better quot;brownquot; sound and better quot;classic marshall' type sounds...they are a little sweeter/wetter and a bit more quot;saggyquot;...but that's just relative...they are very tight amps as well..the VHT is just more-so.

If I was goin the modded Marshall route (which sounds kinda what you are lookin for), I'd go Voodoo or Splawn if I didn't have my Rivera (which I think is a damn fine modded marshall also..sorry Ben...had to say it )

Splawn Splawn Splawn baby. Theres no comparison. Plus the new Splawn's have the 3rd gear mod for an extra gain boost. F'ing unreal sounding.

here is the goofy part.

i want this sucker in my room. is the Pro Stock model a 50 watter? does it sound just like the Quick ROd but less watts?

have you tried a Hotplate on your Splawn? if yes does it sound good?

You don't need a hot plate and they all have the half-power switch. All my clips were recorded with the volume on about 2. It sounds good at any volume.

The Pro-stock is the same as the QR without the clean channel.

Tone?, check your private messages.

edit

nevermind.I'm a moron.I misread that..hehehe

those splawns KICK ASS

that guitar you got there Craig...is that the same one that they advertise on the splawn site? something that begins with an M I think...

THANKS... As if my life wasn't screwed up enough, now I have to find some way to get one of the splawn pro mod amps with the KT-88's in it. As if I don't have enough G.A.S. from this site, you guys have to pile another incredible peice of gear on top of my already tall want list.

I wanted a JCM-800 until I heard this. Now I don't want a JCM-800 anymore. Now I don't want anything until I get this amp. He NAILS George Lynch's tone with that amp. I mean, it's almost like he designed the amp to duplicate that sound while still getting lots of other cool sounds out of it (as is evidenced by the clip by Zach who gets a stunning fenderish tone out of the same model of amp with the same type of tubes). I don't know how he did it, but he's got mad skillz and I will stop at nothing to aquire one of his amps.

thanks againI'll defer to Craig, as he's more of a guitarist than I am......but I like a little power tube in my tone. With the half power switch on (50w) amp; the master amp; pre set to 6 it sounds GREAT....but loud as F*CK!!!

SO....unless you dime the pre amp; knock the master down to 1/2, I found it a bit of a waste for my needs. How Craig gets that tone on 2 without disturbing the TV watchers is beyond me. I tried running it thru a Weber MASS, which worked wonderfully with my Hiwatt, but it didn't get along well at all with the Quick Rod.

I sold the Hiwatt to get the Quick Rod amp; eventually sold the Quick Rod to get a Matchless Clubman...which is more suited to my blues-rock style.

Of course, I now also have a '62 Bluesbreaker RI amp; a '77 JMP MK II 50w, but they get along with the MASS....go figure!

Don't get me wrong though....the Quick Rod is a bada$$ amp!!! Cranked Marshall tones to a very nice clean tone. The newer ones now have a separate EQ for the cleans, which is a nice addition because I found it hard to dial in 1 setting for both channels that I liked.

I never took it apart, but if IIRC, it's not PTP....I could be wrong on that though.

BTW...if you're interested in a QR, there's a guy on The Gear Page selling one for $1100.00 or something like that.Hope I helped....good luck!!!!

thanks dude but i was asking if Splawn has some dealer in the UK cause i go there ever year almost, but unfortunately they dont.
it is almost impossible for me to buy something i havent heard live, you know?

Yeah I hear ya'.....not like you can drive it back after a test drive!!!

What's wrong with your JCM800 ???

I know you've had problems with the JTM60, but the 800 should rock. Maybe you could just have Splawn or whoever mod it for you.

ooops, actually i had to give the JCM800 back cause i was borrowing it.

got to take that off my sig.

Here in Greece that only access i have to High End gear are VHT,Custom Audio Elec, THD, SMF ( which is an amazing amp by the way, the 35 watter) , and Diezel. And of course Marshall but i cant stand the way they are built and the way the new ones sound the service sucks!

out of all those the VHT are the most affordable which i can buy. For around 2000euro i can get the 50/12 combo which sounds real nice to me.

i wish that i had access to more but i dont. i do go to the states and UK every now and again but again you need time to try something out before you buy it and especially in those price ranges.

i woould seriously consider the SMF though if it wasnt 2800 euro, have you heard those things???!!!!! geez they are amazing. the most tonaly rich amp i have heard.

any other ideas?

hey i got an idea,

maybe we can make the guy over here that sells all the amps i mentioned above a Splawn dealer?

here is his info, i got it from the net so he wont mind.

With that said, if you can't try it out, I'd stick with what is available to you.

From what I've heard, the VHT is a very good amp, so you probably won't go wrong.

Good luck!!!

So PuckBoy99 lets make this guy here a Dealer. what do you think? IM sure the amps would sell here cause they are cheaper than alot of boutique choices.

i know alot of people that would prefer to spend 1800Euros over 2500-3500euros for a nice head. dont you think?

Would Splawn dig having an overseas dealer?
