Hey guys,
got a question
I have a strat plus with an old minihumbucker in the neck position, and an SSL-7 in the bridge. I noticed that 500k pots sounded a lot better, with a more open tonality, and a little more sparkle on the top end. Would 1 meg pots be another step in that same direction.... more open, more responsive, more sparkle on the top? Anyone use those?
Thanks,
Randy
Possibly. Really, 1 meg pots are as close as you can get to hearing your guitar fully quot;openquot;, next to just taking the pots out. You may find it to be too raw, perhaps. Just my thoughts.

I use a 1 meg pot in this guitar (lt;---) and they´re exactly that, a step further in that direction..... next best thing to a no load pot
1M pots are great with the right pickup/guitar. I wouldn't use one with single coils but with certain humbuckers I would, like the Custom, CC, the 59, A2P.
I think you're right on with the next step analogy. Whether you'll like the tone is another matter. I've tried 1meg pots in my strat a few times. Once with lawrence black label pups in a quot;Hendrix Harnessquot; and later with a et of Carvin AP11's.
While the tone was certaily more open and in your face, I wound up going back to 250K's and have not strayed from them since! This is just what my ear likes to hear....( I even use 250K's with buckers ) but the expanded treble response just may be what the Dr ordered for your needs.
The good thing is changing pots around has to be the easiest, least expensive thing one can do to try new tones. Good luck. I hope it works for you.
I use a 1meg wth the tone zones
it works like a charm
it lets more highs through and the TZ needs this since it is a dark pup.
BUT on a bright pup dont use one it will be harsh and shrill
What you could also do is just put in a push/pull pot that bypasses everything between the pickup and the output jack. That way if you also like the sound of a 500k or 250k for certain things, you can have both.
Thanks for the word!
I might have to try the 1 meg idea some time soon.
I think the SSL-7 would probably be okay with it, since the output is around 14kohm.
