ok i have a gibson sg and a fender ultimate chorus dsp... even when the smp is turned up very loud i get no..i guess balls would be the way to put it...the highs sound very bad no matter what the eq is on...the bridge pickup is very high, compared to the neck. i have sd pickups so im not really worried that the pups are the problem. anybody know of anything?

Are you looking to get a heavy rock/metal sound? No offense to Fender because they're great amps, they're just not hard rock amps.

Sounds like you need some sort of effects unit. I know, I know....purists don't believe in them, however...I do. I just bought the Zoom GFX5 for $199.00, after having used their GFX707 Multi Effects Pedal for about 5 years. The input jack on that unit shorts out a little, although the pedal is in perfect shape otherwise. Hmmm, I might let you have it if you cover the cost of shipping. I still have the original box and instruction manual, etc. The only thing is...I have to see if one of my sons wants it first, ok?? In any case, you can hear what a multi-effects unit sounds like if you look for the quot;Gambale Jam Takequot; thread here in the clips area.

I had a ton of clips with the older Zoom, but recently took them down off of Digital Sound PLanet. If you want, I can re-post a few of them.

Anyway...the unit will definitely give you just about every tone imaginable. It has distortion, overdrive, delay, chorus, etc., etc. If you're looking for a quot;balls-ierquot; sound, it would definitely deliver.

Dave

hey thanks dave, talk to your sons and if they dont want it i will sure take it..

FX might be a band-aid, but the amp's probably the issue. A warm tube amp could be a good solution.

I think you got the quot;wrongquot; amp. Fenders are not metal or rock in my opinion.

Or you could get a overdrive/distortion pedal of some sort.

Guess that would solve it.

i have a digitech--yeah i know im poor--- screaming blues pedal, that i actually really like. but i cant get ANY good tone unless the amp is CRANKED which is not an option in my house

Yeah, I agree that it's probably the amp that's the problem. It doesn't matter what effects you get if the amp is not putting out good tone. Getting a good tube amp would probably make a world of difference.

Maybe you should look at something more 'marshally'... I agree that fenders don't do the heavy rock thing at all well, even if they are great amps for those of us who are happy to play nothing heavier than the Strokes. Maybe a Marshall pedal like a Jackhammer would help...
