I am building a rock guitar :
strat body with rear routing and a nice maple flametop
It wil be equipped with a floyd rose locking trem
bridge pickup wil be a Seymour duncan JB trembucker
middle pickup is going to be a hotrail pickup
only the neck pickup is still unknown, so maybe you guys can help me out, what will sound great with the JB on a strat body ?
I was thinking of a pearly gates
the guitar wil get an maple neck with rosewood fingerboard !
help me out
I know its very routine...but i rekon go with a Jazz in the neck...and might i suggest perhaps cooling the middle down a little bit with a cool rails instead of a hot rails...its just that way you will get much more versatility for clean tones which will sound much better with a cool rails in the middle than with a hot rails there. The JB and the Jazz are plenty hot enough already!
The Jazz or 59n go great with a JB, though I don't know how well they would go with a hot rails. The Pearly Gates would probably be ok, too.
What is the body made of?
I am going te make a split knob for clean parts , I need to have a hot middle pickup so I can have it not so close to the strings because I hate to touch the pickup with my pick
It wil get in the way ...
I've been hearing the soundclips on and the jazz sound a bit wooly/not deep enough, I need more transparicy
excuse me for my language , I am dutch and my vocabulary for english is not so great

Dont worry dude your english is easy to understand
If you're after transperancy then with the hotter pickups i think the Jazz is probably going to be the most transparent...but for a neck humbucker with more of that transparent flavour you can't go past the alnico 2 pro neck.
Also while this is a duncan board and all...i have to say that the soundclips on that site aren't the best for basing desicions on for some picukps, just because some tend to sound very similar and the amps, guitars, and fingers you will be using the pickup with will most likely be totally different.
But if transparency is what you're after, forget about the jazz and 59 and go get yourself an a2pro neck bucker
damn, I must not reply that fast, now I see that you were talking about site,
I was thinkin you where talking about my band website
sorry
a friend has the jazz in neck pos.. and I have a anico II in neck pos
but still not stransparant enough even when I split my alico II it wil get transparant but it looses its BIG tone
dilemma's
I wouldhave thought the a2pro would have been as transparent as you can get with a duncan humbucker...although i have heard from other people (if i remember correctly) that a dimarzio PAF Pro is quite a transparent sounding pickup. It sounds to me like you need a single coil in the neck! One thing i love about my strat is that the neck position sounds great under high gain but it has a very transparent open tone about it. Its an alder warmoth custom strat with a dimarizio virtual vintage blues in the neck...and that is a stacked single coil which sounds great clean and distorted...only for high gain i push it a bit extra with some extra gain from a pedal on top of my already high gain channel on an ENGL head and it sounds great!
I doubt you will get more transparency in tone than an a2pro neck...but im not totally sure.
it's a bit ugly to hang a single in a humbucker frame ,.. options ?
ummm you could always try a neck phat cat...they are just fatter p90 type singles that fit and look like a humbucker only with one line of pole piece screws...that might do the trick.
Has the guitar body already been made and routed?
even uglyer ..
or 2 singles in one frame :S maybe a stupid suggestion hahahah
hahaha yeah...maybe you could put a stag mag in the neck and just have it always split in the neck position so its just one single coil.
But i think since you're definitely going for something transparent and a humbucker, go put a seth or an a2pro in there...or go spend some money on a lindy fralin neck bucker...they are supposed to be ballsy but still sound extremely open
And a friend has just confirmed that a dimarzio PAF Pro is an extremely transparent sounding pickup.
ok thanx I might go for the paf pro !!

How about a Dimarzio Humbucker From Hell? It's supposed to sound a lot like a single coil.
