Hi guys,
Heard this the other da yfor the first time in years - awesome tone. I know the guitarist Dave Meniketti uses SD pups does anyone know what he would have used for this?

Dave plays a beat up Gibson Les Paul that is pretty famous to Y amp; T fans and I believe that was the guitar he used on the album. If it wasn't the guitar on the album, I have seen him play that song live with that guitar a lot and he nails the tone. That gibson started life as a late 60's P-90 Goldtop. But when he bought it, in the early 70's I believe, it had been painted sunburst and routed for humbuckers. As far as I know they were Gibson humbuckers in that guitar and he still uses it today. If your looking at Duncan pickups I believe a neck 59 will nail that tone. His tone seems to be more of an A-5 magnet PAF type tone in the neck.

Dave has a webiste that is worth a visit. They actually have an ask Dave section so you could ask the man himself. As we speak, he is having a replica Les Paul built by a luthier friend of his. He mentioned on his site that he is putting a Duncan Custom 5 in the bridge but hasn't decided on the the neck pup yet. I think a Custom 5 bridge and 59 neck in a Les Paul or similar guitar would nail the Y amp; T tone, and be real versatile for other types of music as well.

PS- Dave also has a Kramer Baretta and has played that live and in the studio for many years. He uses that on songs where he wants a little more sizzle. That guitar has a Duncan Custom in it and is a single pup guitar

hey, thanks for the response. I'll take a trip over to his site and ask the question.

Definitely one of my favorite guitar players of the 80s. I didn't know he was still on the scene. I'll check out the website.

I saw him play with Yamp;T in the early 80s and I also saw Yamp;T last year supporting Whitesnake in London and he still plays like a demon. You should dig out your old Yamp;T albums - Earthshaker, what a classic!

Summmmmeeerrrrtttttimmmmmmeeeee GGGGGiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrlllllllsssssssssssssss:wanders off to find can of motoroil:Loved D.M.'s playing back in the day...I used to have a greatest hits tape..(I think Summertime Girls was the only hit they had tho )

EDIT: BTW, I'm not positive but I thot I remember reading a very old interview with him and he was using a DiMarzio Super D in his Les Paul..though I cannot say for sure...

He still plays a lot around here (Northern CA, Bay Area) He plays with both Yamp;T and with his solo band. He always plays in smaller venues here and it is a real pleasure to see him like that. It doesn't matter if he is playing his Les Paul or some of his strats, he always gets great tone and has great feel and phrasing. Plus he has the coolest toggle switch hammer on lick that he does (Black Tiger solo).

He has two solo albums that are available through his website. The first is more of a blues album but with a rock feel to it and the second is a combo of good old rock and some bluesy stuff.

Definitely check out his site from : localhost/are good stories about how he was asked to join Whitesnake and how Ozzy got down on his knees to beg him to join his band. Great stuff.
