Well?
I boost my pick...got a true thumbpass fat booster
Well all the drives I normally use or make have a cleanboosta the end of the signalchain.
But normally I just turn up the guitar.
I looped my preamp's FX loop straight through and raised the signal ins and outs. Now all I have to do is hit the FX loop button on the floor and there it is! I run a rack so any effects are after the preamp anyway so I don't use the FX loop for effects.
Volume pedal and or the Duncan SFX-01 Pickup Booster...
I've got several ways of boosting the volume, that I actually use all. Mind you, not all at the same time, LOL.
-a change of pick attack;
-switch on the volumeboost of my Koch Pedaltone preamp (they have separate rhythm and solo volumesettings that are footswitchable);
-switch on the gainboost on the leadchannel of my Koch Pedaltone;
-switch on a volumeboost of any kind on the Boss GT8 (either the soloswitch in the ampsim, one of the parametric EQ's, an overdrive, the volumepedal or by switching ampchannel or changing patches).
I rarely use my Hamp;K Triamp combo stand-alone, so I don't need to mention switching channels on the Triamp.
My Engl has 2 channels with footswitchable gain on both channels which in effect makes it a four channel amp (clean, crunch, soft lead, heavy lead). In addition, it has a footswitchable VLS (volume level setting) or boost that can be used on EACH channel!!!
BYOC tribooster before the amp and after the distortion pedal on clean boost setting. It's been acting up on me lately when I went to change the LED. I gotta redo the whole thing I think.
What for?? Just another unnecessary tapdance step that detracs from live performance
pick harder
volume knob
different channel on amp
Barber Direct Drive in my signal path.
Pends...either a ped when I was playing marshalls...or the boost built into the Chubster.
On the modelers (soon to be out the door) I hit a stomper too..
Duncan booster has been one of the best gadgets I have ever owned. It does not color the sound, which is crucial for me.
A volume and dirt boost for solos is what i really love and once i got a 5150 stack that boost you get in the solo channel is what i had been looking for..... But i also have 2 other ways of doing it besides using amps with solo channels..
1-I have an HS2 Head Switcher from and it allows you to plug 2 rube heads into one cab and A/B between the heads... Set one up louder and more distorted and you have a solo channel... I use it mostly to add another head like my Classic 50 head to my 5150 head for clean sounds... (lots of famous players use Axess stuff.... EVH has some of his buffers on the last tour, Rush, Peter Frampton and so on)
2-everyone knows that adding an OD or Dist box in front of an overdriven tube amp just makes it more distorted and there is no volume boost. Well in the Clean channel when you switch from one dist pedal to another louder one you can set it to get one hell of a boost. I found that if you use a Boss Line Selector pedal and a rythym Distortion pedal in loop A, and a Solo pedal in Loop B set louder, it works like a multi channel amp... Clean/Rythym/Solo. It works great and i use this in front of my Classic 30 and Fender 65 Deluxe
WHOFAN
Solo channel on the recto, a tad more gain and volume added.
I set the rhythm channel on my 5150 a bit louder than the lead, and use that.
When I do use it, it's my amp's built in alternate Master Volume B. To me it's the absolute best boost. The tone remains the same as Master A, just louder. I do use a boost pedal in front of the pre-amp but it's used more for overdriving the pre-amp than a volume boost.
I normally use my TS9. Sometimes I use my GE-7 EQ pedal as a clean boost and to accentuate the mids a bit.
Pick harder, guitar's volume pot, Boss GE-7 equalizer.
Driving a single-channel 18 Watter clone.
I prefer the sound of vintage style amps. I like to set up a good clean tone that I can adjust with a pedal of some sort. Sometimes I set my amp for a little drive too -- depends on the song or the set.
Either one out of the Three,Or.... All Three together:
1) Volume Knob
2) TS-9
3) Pick harder (aka) Release your Thunder!!
4) All of the Above.
