My first question is, can I get SRV tones from a either a peavey classic 30 or 50? Will be using highway one strat and eventually a tubescreamer or similar.

My understanding is the peavey classics are very good clean sounding amps, comparable to fenders, is this the case?

My second question are the classic 30 and classic 50 the same tonally, I would assume that the difference is volume?

Cheers

I'd look into the Classic 50 with 4 10quot; speakers. That one will get you closer.

If you can spend a bit more, look for a clean early SF Super Reverb. That one will get you a lot closer.

I own both a Classic 30 and a Classic 50... I love these amps with humbuckers... for the single coil clean sound i prefer my Fenders... They have a little extra sparkle.. The Peavey's are great amps!!! I like them a lot, but the Fender amps i think have more what you are looking for....

I think you'd get pretty close to the tone you're after.

I've owned a Classic 30 and friend of mine had a Classic 50.
It was awhile back but I think I found the classic 50 slightly more meaty and full. But maybe it was psychological coz you turn around and see a bigger amp. =)

Peavey Classics will work, but if you wanna nail the SRV neck pickup sound, buy a set of Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's. SRV lives in that neck pickup, trust me.

I found the classic 50 had to much mids for a nice sparkly clean sound too muddy especially with single coils, nice for creamy rock tones or thick cleans. But not so good if you dont like a lot of mids. I still use one, but i much prefer my hughes and kettner.

I agree... My Classic 30 and Classic 50 amps i love but they sound best for me with Humbuckers. That SRV sound i think sound has a fair bit of Bottom end

Get a peavey classic, and 4 or 5 other amps, and run them all simultaneously, that'll get you closer to his sound.

It's difficult to try to nail the tone he got when he had so many different things working for him at the same time. Different tubes, speakers, settings.

Check Rene Martinez' website, 'cause he talks about it there.
