I just bought a Epiphone Elitist ES-335 quot;64quot; reissue. The action and intonation are just right and the neck feel is buttery But the electronics are lacking even tough they are USA made. I'm thinking of quot;59'squot; or Pearly gatesgt; neck and jefbeck at the bridge
why kind of sound are you looking for?
blues mostly right now, rock casic rock and a taste of jazz
For a nice smooth 335 type sound, i'd totally go with a set of AIIPros or Seths Really nice and sweet, but can still crunch if they need to.
59's will probally be a great all around choice. The Alnico II pro's will be just as good of a choice!
Stay far away from the JB in my opinion!
Yeah, I'd say '59s if you want a brighter, chimier sound with less complex mids. If you want a tone with a rounder, more complex midrange, and less chime, go for the AIIPros or Seths. Those three pickups share a similar wind, but the '59 uses an A5 magnet, and the AIIPros and Seths use A2s. Of course, you can always switch magnets to change the sound of the pickup. I agree with odie about the JB. I think it's too overwound for what you want out of it. That pesky high mid spike tends to make things too nasal and harsh for jazz and blues.
