I was just sitting here thinking to myself...Damn, it would be cool to own a Gibson Les Paul with Strings going through the body. Is it because of the thickness of Les Pauls or some other reason?
though not a LP, the nighthawk(currently only available as blueshawk) has string-through bridge.
Well, I was proven wrong, but why dont they have a Les Paul, SG, V, or Explorer like that?
i forgot, the neal schon LP also has string through bridge(floyd rose)A Floyd Rose is not string through.
The original V design is string through.
I'm pretty sure there have been Les Pauls with string through bodies, I think the really thin one with the active electronics and all the silly switches.
The SG had a string through body in the very early 90's unless I'm thinking of the ESP copies.
yeah.. current Vs are fixed brigde. the funny thing is the Epi Goth V is string thru.

´58 reissue Flying V
yeah those old v's had that v shaped tailpiece right? that looked like string through body. or the flying v customs or whatever. i really want one of those they are really nice.
The reason? Tradition and price, I guess.
I just picked up a cheap Epiphone Slasher that has string-thru... Does that count..?

Yes good call
The greatest SG of all time!
To give my take on the question...Gibson is not know for it's innovation...when was the last time they came out with a truly unique idea? I love 'em, but they stick to tradition.
god forbid they do anything modern to evolve their designs. It's going to be the death of them. It seems like the last time they did anything innovative was the gibson nighthawk and I own one of those.
Which was '93! Thet Blueshawk was an innovation too...'96!

You're right! I was thinking SG-90, that's why I couldn't find it!

The SG-90 is an SG-Z with a Steinberger trem on it- instead of the string-through bridge. I hear those trems are the worst thing ever.
am I right in thinking string through increases sustain? maybe there'd just be too much sustain on a les paul? if nigel tufnel can hear all that sustain without even playing a note on a les paul, imagine it as a string through
