Im thinking about buying this Ibanez Destroyer II DT-50 mid 80's, i havent got the price yet but I was told it will be about $180 USD.
The guitar has one Nickel Plated PAF and some breed of dimarzio super distortion bridge. It has a tuneomatic bridge, 2 vol controls and 1 one tone and a three way switch. Its finished in black and has a slightly thicker than Wizard neck. It was made in the japanese factory and It sounds absolutely amazing through an Orange stack.
I guess its a toss up between this one and and an Ibanez Explorer from about the same era, in a beautiful wood grain finish with gold hardware and EMG pickups, I dont know how this one sounded though. The explorer was priced about $350 USD.I also came across a beaten up unbranded start copy with an unlicensed floyd rose style locking trem. I read the tuners quot;made in japanquot;, turns out it was made in the nagoya factory. However somebody had ripped off the locknut and replaced it with a plastic piece of ****! The pup switch was bent and the strap buttons were ripped out, suprisingly the finish wasnt too bad.Though i could easily fit a new lock nut, i dont think it would be worth my $60 USD for the guitar. Actually it probably would be, but i dont have the time at the moment.
So please, give me your opinions on the Destoryer II and Explorer, which would be a better choice. Sound quality, reliability etc.
turns out i was wrong.
the pickups are Super 70 Neck, V2 Bridge. Birch and Basswood Body but im not sure of the neck is 3pc birch or 3pc maple. I thought it was rosewood at first, but the ibanez register says otherwise.
id go with the destroyer. $350 sounds way too much for damage like you described about the explorer (especially the strap buttons). and if you know the destroyer sounds good, go for it

actually the explorer is in perfect condition, not a dent or scratch. The nagoya strat was the one that was rooted.
Well, I like the destroyer shape better...so I'd get that.
Really depends, Ibanez switched necks about '84 to a thinner, (thus) higher radius neck. You can tell which is which if the headstock is angled back like a LP or straight like a strat. I have 5 DII's (1 -'81, 2 -'82's, 1 - '83 and one '84) I really find the '84 with the straight headstock vastly inferior quot;playability wisequot;, but if it plays good for you, that's all that matters.
The Ibanez Explorer has the same neck dimensions as the early '80s , but you may be quite interested to know that quot;anyquot; Ibanez that has the true Explorer shape routinely sells for substantially more than the price you quoted... so, if you don't buy it, let me know where it is... (or I'll even pay you to get it!)
Just so you know....

well the explorer is in my price range, due to these comments i have a strange urge to pick it up and try it out. I forgot to mention the explorer has a set of EMG 81's installed
