What was the 6L6 tube you mentioned a bit back? The more compressed slightly lower output one... I have an old Gibson I want to try them in.
Thanks in advance.
i think he said they were TAD somethin or another's lol
yes .. the TAD short bottle I think
Mojo Tone is a good source for those
there are two versions, so check with Scott
you'll find lots of comments about these over on the FDP forum, toofrom Lord Valve:
quot; SHUGUANG quot;SHORTBOTTLEquot; BLACKPLATE 6L6WGC
This is something new - a current production BLACKPLATE 6L6.
It's very similar to the old small-bottle GE 6L6GC, with a
clear top and two side getters. It also has the oval micas
like the old GEs did. This tube was first offered by quot;TAD,quot;
a German outfit that was originally the European half of
Magic Parts/Ruby Tubes. TAD (quot;Tube Amp Doctorquot;) told Ruby
to screw off once they got up and running (using Magic Parts'
product lines, clout, purchasing power and advertising copy,
I might add) and now they're suing each other (or something).
Be that as it may, this is the tube that caused a lot of buzz
on the Net, being initially available in the USA from Mojo
Musical Supply. It took me awhile to find out who actually
makes it, but (no surprise) it turned out to be Shuguang in the
end. One thing that stands out about this tube is the way it's
put together - if you didn't know it was Chinese, you'd swear
it was American. It's also the physically shortest 6L6 I
carry, so if you have a clearance problem in your amp for any
reason, this is the one to use. It's also the one to use for
all *true* 5881 applications, like in some of the early Fenders.
Note that this is *not* a clone of the old RCA blackplate
6L6; it's a modern design which uses genuine graphite-coated
plate material. How does it sound? In a word - great!
Everyone who heard this tube in the shop loved it. Everyone
who's ordered it (so far) has given me rave reviews on the
tone. As with any new tube, I have no info yet on service
lifetime or reliability, but so far there's nothing on the
negative side. I only lost one out of 200 during burn-in
and QC, and that's *excellent*. More info in the next
catalog, which hopefully won't take 9 months like this one
did. ;-)
PAIR..................................$35quot;here's Mojo's TAD page
Curly got it right. Small bottle copies of the 6L6WGB's of yesteryear. Great tubes.
Thanks guys!!
They are on the way. I am excited.
