from : localhost/started looking for cheap tube amp for my friend and from the specs it looks pretty good. If any of you have experience with this amp or any other good all tube amps that are cheap please tell me.
I've heard nothing but bad about those amps. Apparently they're noisy, non-responsive, have wacked up volume controls, and are unreliable.
ive heard good things about the epi valve special, but nothing about the galaxie combo
Do you, uh, ebay?
I think a Peavey Classic would do you well, so would a Fender Blues Jr. I've heard good things about the Traynor Blue, but have never played it. I was considering just buying it from MF before I got my Road King.
What is your budget?
Got my Blues Jr. cheap and it kicks a$$. Great little combo!

I'm not the one buying it, I guess my friends budget would be probably around $200 at the max.

Atleast have a good solid $350 budget before looking at a tube amp.
You do get what you pay for in this world. 150 bucks ain't too shabby for an entry level POS. For that price, it's probably got some pretty crappy tubes in it. 10 watts and a 6L6, must be a single power tube only. Probably one or two preamp tubes. Just prepare your friend to try a different tube or two in case the tone isn't that great out of the box.
Its got all good reviews on the site, but 90% of the reviews say its either their 1st amp or its their 1st tube amp.
So, ehhhhhh. I'd be leary. Get a used fender blues JR or the one right under that called a Pro, or something if i remember right.
Check for a used Blues Jr., Peavey Classic 30, or something similar....like more than one person has said.
Eventually, tubes amp; speakers can be changed amp; it can grow (somewhat) with your quot;friendquot;s ability.
Good quality at a fair price with a fair resale value!
Crate V58 for $270 brand new. 8quot; Celestion, 1 12ax7, 1 el84. Controls: Gain, Volume, Tone. Line out jack can also be used as an effects loop. Not the greatest clean but definitely the greatest dirt I've heard at this price!! Made in the USA, for those who still care. I'm seriously considering getting one for around the house to replace my Pignose... gotta have tubes!!!

That, sir, would be me!
for that amount of money i would much rather get a good used SS amp than an ok to bad tube amp at that price.
i havent heard some of the amps people mentioned here for around 200$ with tubes but i think that around 200$ will get you a better SS amp then a tube amp.
besides. while your friend waits his ear will mature ( as i assume he is a beginner) and that will let him make a much better choice as to get some good gear later on.
I have a roland cube 60, its one of the best solid states there are.
Check out my sig and msg me if you're interested.
Hm, I might would part with the Peavey Bandit 112 in his price range. Great bang for the buck SS amp. I just never use it.
I thinking that the podxt would maybe be a better choice from him if he saves some more money.
What do you guys think about that idea?
If his normal amp is junk anyway, a PODxt aint going to help much.
I'm just talking about just only using the podxt as a straight amp. Then hooking it up to his pc to hear it.
How much do the smaller Tech 21's go for?
if ur freind saves up the money he should go for something like a fander pro hnr or blues jnr, a laney lc15 or maybe a peavey classic but if i were him i would go for an all tube combo and not for moddeling equipment (unless he needs 100000 different sounds in one) but with a few effects an all tube combo should be versatile enough
