I’m looking at getting a QP set for my tele, and I’m thinking about ordering the tapped version of each one. I see one tapped diagram on the schematics page (lead pickup tapped). In that diagram (5 way switch) what do the various positions do? I would assume there's a lead tapped, lead full, lead full with neck, and neck. That's four, what else is going on?

Now if I order both the lead and the rhythm tapped, where would the positive leads to the neck pickup go (assuming the positive leads from the lead stay per the schematic).

If I had both pups tapped with a 5 way switch, would the pups be tapped when running in the middle position?

Hey Mike; In that particular diagram, they're doing this:

(#1 is the bridge position.)

1. bridge
2. bridge amp; neck
3. neck
4. neck amp; bridge-tapped
5. bridge-tapped

There's several ways to do two tapped pups. I'll post back as soon as I get home from work.

Artie

A 5-way is kinda weird with twin pups.

But you could also do this: (Using #1 as the quot;neckquot; now.)

1. neck
2. neck amp; bridge
3. bridge
4. neck amp; bridge (both tapped)
5. bridge tapped

Its close to the same, but you're adding the neck-tapped in one position.

I had 1/4 lbrs in a tele back in 1985 or so. I didn't have the tapped version though. Great pickups imo. If you're not worried about spank and twang and want a girthier blues/rock tele, you'd be hard pressed to beat the 1/4 lb'rs. The neck 1/4lb'r was one of my all time favorite pickups to solo with. Ahhhh....the memories.....

Yeah, they are great pups. I just removed a set of tapped QP's from my Tele, but only because I wanted to try the JD/APS-1 combo. I'm hoping to use them in a Mustang/Cyclone kinda project next summer. I think they'ld be great in that.

Artie, I’m looking for these positions:

Bridge
Bridge Tapped
Neck
Neck Tapped
Bridge and Neck (could be tapped)Possible? I’ve only got one switch (I can buy a superswitch if needed) and one volume (obviously, since it’s a Tele). Can it be done with push/pull pots? If so, can a tone push pull also act as a switch?

Teleblooz: did you lose all spank and twang? I still want spank and twang, I’m just looking for spank and twang with more OOMPH than stock vintage spec pickups. Although, I still want the ability to back down, which is exactly why whatever I buy will be tapped.

Yeah, you can do that with either one superswitch, or a 3-way and one push/pull. Just depends on which you prefer.

I can make a diagram of either, or both.

I would prefer a three way with a push/pull. Would one push/pull would allow tapping of both the neck and bridge pickups? If so, that'd give me 6 positions.

Exactly. Using the push/pull is more versatile, as long as you don't mind one knob quot;hanging out in the windquot;.

I'll post a diagram soon. Maybe tomorrow. Its Friday, and I'm havin' a brew.

Artie

No rush, I'm ordering today, and I have a feeling the tapped QPs might take a little longer to get. One final question, I came across push push pots (claimed to be DPDT switches). Is that what I want?

Thanks a million, Artie. Enjoy that brew. I'm looking to have a beer or twelve tonight myself edit:

I should add, it's a DPDT switch, but claims it's on/on. Here's a linky:

Sorry it’s sideways… I can’t rotate it on this machine… but is this diagram right?
Hey Mike; Sorry it took so long to respond. I can't post at work anymore.

Anyway, your diagram is correct. You just want to make sure that you orient the push/pull correctly so that you have the proper function when its quot;downquot;. You have it drawn with the quot;tappedquot; mode selected when down. If thats what you want, then fine. Otherwise, put the white wires on the quot;bottomquot; of the switch. (The end farthest from the knob.)

Looks good. Enjoy.

Artie

Awsome, thanks, Artie. I definitely want the entire pup working when quot;down, quot; so I'll swap the red and white wires on the DPDT switch.

The DPDT switch was actually very easy to figure out. Maybe one day I'll get around to figuring out how the Superswitch works. Thanks again.

No prob Mike.

btw - A Superswitch works like this:
Squares of the same color are connected together.
